    Dreamcast HDMI Upscaling

    Ok, so got my Dreamcast, got my VGA, got my SLG and ite been fine so far on my 37px10 plasma bar the odd minor alignment issue which I can live with.

    The problem is however I want to use it occasionally on my downstairs TV which has no VGA in therefore I need a VGA>HDMI convertor. Im guessing 720x480 wont look great stretched out on the 50" tv therefore upscaling to 720 or 1080 is preferred. My TV has an RGB scart in which doesnt look great tbh, its merely serviceable for now.

    Has anyone already got a solution for this? Dont want a Frameister or anything at the ?100+ price range if there are simpler options available.

    Thank in advance.

    PS I have googled around and theres a decent youtube video regarding this but the particular device the American chap is using is no longer in production

    If you don't want to spend out for a Framemeister I would forget this altogether. Cheap devices add latency like mad and look bad.

    What about VGA -> component?

      Yeah, my other TV has a component in but I hear this was not worth while. I may look into it however if it means spending sub ?50.

      Or I may as well just stick to scart

      Its a shame because there were sub ?100 solutions out there, I assumed some hardcore sega but here would already have something set up

        I think they either have a CRT or a Framemeister. Hehe

            Is probably the best option for that sort of money, if it doesn't work great probably get most of your money back on ebay.

              Not always speedy, you need to research what your buying however, but so far all the upscaler I own have no lag what so ever. But do read the product reviews before buying and make sure the seller is either Amazon or UK based to make sure your covered under UK and EU law.

              Last 10 videos we did on our youtube channel all use an RGB Scart to VGA scaler and all the Dreamcast videos all use a VGA to HDMI one, not a framemeister either. All fast paced games and no lag Samba de Amiga Ver 2000 was an early one the guys uploaded and none of us could spot any lag.

              But you do need to research what your buying and check reviews and videos online. One thing I should make clear is that you need a TV that can resize 1080p or 720p 16:9 to 4:3 some TV's can't and you'll be stuck with widescreen picture if that's the case. So hook up your Xbox 360 or a PS3 and see if you can resize them to 4:3 first before buying anything.

                Pretty sure my 50ST50 Panny Plasma can resize aspect ratio from 16:9 to 4:3 if necessary.

                  Check the remote for an aspect ratio button, have one on our Viera LED remote and it works a treat for the DC.

                    In fact I know it does because I hooked up the dreamcast via Scart a couple of weeks ago. I wish I could get it to recognise the 720x480 that the DC is actually pumping out.
