    Divvy networking Q.

Quick poser for you tech minded folks.

I am considering picking up a cheapy laptop and setting up a network with my main PC as a master (running XP and 56k dial up)
Is it possible to share the outlook express data file on the main pc so that mail and newsgroups etc are "stored" on the main PC yet visible using the lappy without splitting data between the two depending on which PC is using to app?

Its super easy with Outlook in Office. Just find your outlook.pst, share the folder over the network (wireless?) and then make the outlook on your laptop look at the same pst file. Easy as pie. Well in theory :P

For Express I would imagine its just a case of finding the data file and doing the same.

I was hoping it would be this simple, cheers for the info I'll look into it a bit more closely.

If you were really clever you could set up a VPN with a broadband router and dial in from other locations to access the file too. 8) But you would have to leave your PC on all the time, which may or may not be a hassle for you.

Also you don't not have broadband

Sure it could be done with 56K too though.

Don't have outlook running on both machines at once though, a PST isn't designed as a multi-user database and it might corrupt it.

And I really wouldn't run a VPN (and definitely not Outlook accessing it's own local store) over a 56K connection

I do it all the time to Uni and it works perfectly fine, just takes ages.
