    Headphones thread

    Hey all,

Not sure if this should be here or not but I searched & couldn't find a thread about Headphones already (although my search skills are fairly crap so there might actually already be one) so thought I'd start this as I'm looking for some advice.

I'm about to make a start back at the gym after a lay off of well over 2 years & I need some new Headphones to go with my iPod Touch

I would like in ear ones as I think nothing looks more ridiculous than someone working out wearing massive cans on their head.

I listen to all types of music but my workout playlist is mostly heavy rock & Rap so something with some weight to the bass would be nice but expect that to be a big task for tiny little in ears so know I will have to make sacrifices

    Budget will be around ?30-?50

So come at me bro's what should I be looking for?

    Ta

    Neil

    SoundMAGIC E10

Best in-ears up to £40, Awards 2013. A genuine no-compromise proposition for the money.

I got the What Hi-Fi recommended up to ?150+ model of Sony MDR-EX650 recently and they were great but they're slightly pushing over ?50 on Amazon now compared to what I paid.

      Thanks Oli,

Those look perfect, sound like exactly what I need & that price is pretty sweet.

I did see the Expert Reviews mention they only ship with silicone tips but they recommend getting some isolating foam tips but do you recommend going down that route as well?

I looked up those Sony's & they look pretty nice too do you think they are worth the ?30 extra over the Soundmagics?

Thanks again buddy I appreciate it

One thing I love about the Sony is that they sit in your ear canal properly due to how they're constructed, the SoundMAGIC look as if they'd be loose in your ear and may move around a little if you're cycling or whatever. If you're not cycling or active though I'm sure the SoundMAGIC are great though, I doubt the Sony are worth almost double the money.

I think for the money the E10s are unbeatable. Absolutely superb. I use them with some comply foam tips
You will have no issue with the bass on these with a good fitting tip. They are bassy without being unbalanced like the CX300s.

            Thanks man

I won't be cycling or anything too stamina related...weights only for me.
I do have very narrow ear canals but not sure that would be an issue with popping these in my lug 'oles but I'll consider the noise cancelling foam tips at a later date if I feel I need them.

Lol probably not worth the extra for the limited use they would be getting...plus if I faff about with them in a gym environment I won't mind so much damaging ?30's worth instead of the Sony ones

How about some neckband style phones? Grado do iGrado neckbands in black or white. They are about ?50 and have fantastic sound for the money. Not big and bulky and won't fall off or out of your ears. Open back design too.

Fantastic, the whole gym will be able to listen too!

I like the neckband idea for the gym, as my in-ears fall out all of the time when I run. But yeah, neckband with in-ear buds I think.

Thanks for that, had a quick look but definitely not a design I like the look of.

Lol are pen backs bad for that then?

I'm hoping mine won't be too bad the only they might is on a decline Bench Press
I do nothing that involves me moving at any speed that means they might shift or fall out...I have zero stamina for anything like that.

Open back design does let a bit of sound leak out but offers a lovely wide soundstage too. I used mine while travelling on trains and planes but was never asked to turn it down.

Well, that's a trait that is inherent of open design yes. My AKG K701 have a frankly ridiculous soundstage.

I'm looking for some headphones for my amp/turntable so I can use headphones when others are in bed and still have a bit of volume.
Any recommendations please. Sub ?100 if possible...

See if B&W have any refurbished P3s. Great sound and very comfortable. Don't need much power to drive them well either as they are suitable for portable use.
