After a new PC gaming monitor

So, further to my desire to upgrade my PC gaming rig I'm now in the market for a new monitor to go with it.

My original plan was a 4k one, but I figure I would rather have a more fluid experience and an IPS monitor as opposed to a 4k TN with lousy colours, contrast and a much lower frame rate "appearance"

My current plan is to go for one of these: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Acer-XB270HU...=acer+predator which would go nicely with my Titan X build, but I'm hearing terrible things in regards to Acer's quality control (too many stuck or dead pixels, trapped hair/dust and backlight bleed. My current monitor is a Dell ultrawide IPS http://www.dell.com/ed/business/p/dell-u2913wm/pd but this only goes to 2560x1080. Really could do with some advice round about now!

well, how many Titan X's are in the system?

Reason I ask because 4k is really hard to push 60+ fps at the best of times and honestly 1x Titan X won't do it if your looking for 4k, Ultra settings and 60+ fps.

Personally I use the 34" LG Ultrawide 34UC97

3440x1440, 60Hz display it's really a great way to game, vision filling and without any annoying bezels. It's easier to push then a 4k display too.

      2 Titans.

That acer also appeals due to the G-Sync feature, but I'm not sure if I should chance it, given Acer's policy on "faults". The monitor is almost ?150 cheaper on amazon.de though compared with the next cheapest on amazon.co.uk and OCUK's current special.

        Nice one, same here.

I'd love to try G-Sync, but honestly until it's in an ultrawide shell I'll keep waiting Ultrawide is an excellent way to game.

That said, it's possibly not ideal if your playing online shooters competitively as it has middling response time. Certainly then the Acer is the option.

I highly recommend the Ultrawide though.

Do you have problems with micro stutter btw? I understand SLI produces that.

Yeah, not me no. All I see really is massive FPS boosts.

            Example:

            Witcher 3:
            1x Titan X = 40-60fps variable
            2x Titan X = 60fps

            Ultra, Hairworks, Sharpening and AA

I know our very own PaTaito seems to notice it, but personally no. I've also been using dual GPU's since the GTX 480 days...

So 2 is definitely worth the investment then? Did you get a pre build or make it yourself?

                I built mine myself.

I tried my best with the cabling...

g-sync is ok not sure if it is worth the extra premium though and also a bit of a pain when most g-sync monitors only have one display port

I've also considered the Asus ROG Swift PG278Q now, since discovering it's compatible with Nvidia vision (something the Acer isn't and I would probably make the trade for a TN monitor).

Both monitors still however have dead pixel issues, although you take a gamble pretty much with any monitor for that really. Anyone have experience with Asus?

only thing i have had from asus is a motherboard which i had no issues with monitor i have is a aoc g2460pg which works well enough though picture quality is nothing special. But looking at the ROG swift i really could not justify spending twice as much for that

Yeah, I've seen that video too. I guess not every monitor will have its fans. My ideal requirements would be more than 1080p resolution, G-Sync enabled and at least 100hz if not 4k. The only monitors I've found to cover all 3 are the Acer Predator and Asus Swift series.

If that's what your looking for then the Acer is the monitor really. I stand by the ultrawide though, you've probably been gaming on 16:9 for years...

Well i think as far as having g-sync and 3d vision and it is higher then 1080p that asus one is the best. Not sure what else will be coming up though. I am surprised that the acer ips monitor did not have 3d vision support as i thought 144hz was the main criteria for having it so i suspect they may do another version later

Oculus rift is the way forward for 3D. The old type is not great imo...
