Before I go crazy and splash out on something with a lot of oomph and up to date...

would need a graphics card ....not sure what sort but a cheap budget one should do it like a amd 5000 series of nvidia 600 series

really, want to test how I am with games on PC before I go all out with something, and I want to play older games regardless....

yeah probably best to get the machine first try it out and if you can look inside to see if it has the power connectors spare for graphics cards

had a look at benchmarks for the 210 http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/...0,2445-14.html

the 210 might struggle ....even left 4 dead only got 18fps at low resolution

Ive got an older tower i'm looking to get rid of if interested, should cream those 2 - core2duo 6300, 3gb ram, ATI 5670 512mb, Windows 7 64bit ultimate.

Hi Base, would I be better changing the OS to XP though, as its largely going to be used for older games. 2002-2006 (maybe 08 if possible)...

Best to check compatibility of the individual games really. The cod ones should run fine, as does return to castle wolfenstein etc.

I'm not very good with PC's....just the stuff I've been reading about the games I want to play most (rather than anything modern) seem to run best with XP. I did a few searches and a lot of the games I would like to play ran on XP...

Typically you can right click on an item and run in xp compatibility mode.

You only need 7 onwards for DX10/11 and TRIM for SSDs.

The reason I have no issue with going for something older as I've looked through a lot of games, and its a period of gaming I want to play.
Modern gaming largely is doing nothing for me right now. I've exhausted retro to an extent, although, that will always be there for me as I do love it. I've never really been a PC gamer....and I fancy some FPS's and finally fancy playing them with a keyboard and mouse too.
