I put a new hard drive in ps4 , problem with get system on it Any help

    Hi

any advice, I've just put a 2tb in my ps4, so I follow the psn page and get the system software on a USB.

but when I go to put it on the ps4 , it won't recognise it at all, annoying.

i have formated the USB stick and its definately the 800mb file , and not just the update , any ideas , why it won't work

    thanks

I did this Tuesday and had exactly the same problem!

Not intending to be patronising, but have you taken the file from this link, and are you following the procedure for 'update from computer':

For the best PlayStation experience, make sure your PlayStation®4 console system software is always updated to the latest version.

I ended up using a second USB, which was completely clear - the only folders on it were PS4, then UPDATE. Double check that the update file is called PS4UPDATE.PUP - when I downloaded it, my Mac had called it PS4UPDATE-2.PUP.

I'm now using the USB for my gamesaves and nearly every time I go to switch a save from the USB to the PS4, I get an error message. I take the USB out, re-insert it, and then it recognises it!

My issue seemed to be sorted by changing the USB stick, wiping the new one clear of my Gamesaves folder, ensuring that the filenames were correct, and inserting and reinserting the USB stick.

    Hope that helps...

I changed from 500gb to 1tb last year and managed it ok.

i just don't get it I've wiped the stick and made sure everything is named as it should be. So it's a mystery.

i just says can't find the update file, even its clearly on the USB stick, to say I'm getting annoyed is a understatement.

it should be so easy but I just won't work

just to check when I save the file in the update folder do I have to rename the update to PS4UPATE.PUP

      thanks

        Yep:

        1. On the USB storage device, create folders for saving the update file.

Create a folder named "PS4". Inside that folder, create another folder named "UPDATE".

        2. Download the update file, and save it in the "UPDATE" folder you created in step 1.

Save the file with the file name "PS4UPDATE.PUP"

It should be around 800MB, if I remember correctly. As I said, it definitely didn't work for me if there was anything else in those folders or on the USB stick; and the file originally didn't have that filename.

        Good luck!

Thanks for your help I have tried with 2 clear USB ,s with no luck.

this is what I have. PS4, then a new folder in that called UPDATE, then I've saved the firmware .pup file into the update folde.

but the file does look,a little weird on my PC , so maybe it's my PC.

but I give up, defeated by modern technology the 1tb has gone back in for now.

I'll throw my two cents: USB sticks formatted NTFS or other formats not FAT32? The PS4 should be able to read FAT32 and ExFAT only.

I formatted them to fat 32. It should be so easy I'm finding it really frustrating . At the moment.

roght I have the answer it was my PC , I have winrar and a few file extractors and I thought the file was strange.

so I asked my neighbour if I could use his new PC , the file looked different and it worked. Thank goodness after I wasted about 4 hours trying today.

              thanks for help

I know you solved this but I have your answer I think/hope. I had same stupid problem when I upgraded to 1TB and no problems I n Nov 2013 original release. Your problem is the USB stick I thought, as above FAT32 format. USB stick needs to be completely blank. All that should be on it is the Start up .pup update for booting. That should be the larger file one, then after you go through that you can upgradee to latest firmware through the Internet. I repet USB MUST be blank beside that boot up file in the folder PS4-UPDATE.

Glad you fixed it anyways. It is so annoying too me at lease 1 -2 hours for me to solve when I had an issue.
