    PS3 emulation of 'PSOne Classics'

Whenever possible, I prefer playing games on the hardware they were developed for. However, Suikoden I and II are on sale at the EU PlayStation Store and those are games I won't pay the exorbitant prices they command on the 2nd hand market.

How well do those 'PSOne Classics' play on the PS3? For the sake of arguement, let's ignore the fact that they (probably) won't be displayed on a CRT TV through RGB scart as intended.

Not bad at all. Nothing to be concerned about, plenty of options for configuring them too.

Would recommending jumping on US PSN of course.

Usually, yes, but the PAL Suikodens would be the exception because of the bugs that were fixed for the PAL release.

      Thanks for the input!

Yeah, generally it's very acceptable. I've played a fair bit of a few games, such as Vagant Story and Metal Gear solid without issues.

Pal suikoden is fine on vita if that helps!

            Bonus question:

Some PS1 games would check the memory card for other games' saves. Metal Gear Solid was - notoriously - one of them and I believe Suikoden II checks for a save for the first game. Is this feature supported by the PS3's emulator?

Not sure, but I suspect it will. You define a "virtual memory card" when you run PS1 games (they don't have individual saves), so I would be willing to bet it'll work exactly as it did back on the original console.

I've finished both Suikoden games 100% on NTSC and encountered no issues.

It does. I'm sure they mentioned my Castlevania save on my virtual memory card when I played MGS1 on PS3. Both digital downloads too.

How do you beat Metal Gear on vita exactly?

I mean the controller switching part.

You can switch emulated controller via the menu.

I have quite a few PS One classics Dino Crisis, Policenauts, MGS, Vagrant Story, Ridge Racer 4, Biohazard 2, 3 Castlevania, DOA, KOF 96 and Smash Court Tennis 2 most Japanese due to 60hz stuff but for a game like Suikoden PAL should be fine. The PS One classics on PS3 have smoothing options, when turned on are great and you can view the manual in most games from within it. I'd have to check but as others said plenty of screen ratio options, I leave in Normal size. Never had any problems with any games or any saving issues, you can back up saves on USB also (just click on the memory card and you can see the blocks). Virtual memory cards work well but like on the real PS One fill up rather quick so need to make others. As others have mentioned on the Vita the games look wonderful too.

Issues: DOA crashed quite a bit but could be my PS3 HDD and where it was saved. To add Kit and Speedlita reminded me switching Discs on Biohazard 2 is a bit fiddly that is the only issue I had if you can call it that, I have encountered. This is done like the above in the menu.
