    Network Cat5 switching/splitting query

    Hi all,

    Possibly a simple answer.

I run a 30m Cat5 from the router in my lounge to my bedroom to my PC and it works great, since my wireless is crap.
I want another wired connection to my 360, but don't really want to run another Cat5 from my router as I have to get back up into the loft, so is there any way I can run a switch with two leads? So I could essentially plug the Cat5e in my bedroom into an 'IN' on a switch and output 2 signals. I wouldn't need the devices - PC and 360- on at the same time, I just need an easy way to get 2 wired connections out of 1 CAT5 lead that's plugged in to the main router.

    Cheers

Any new switch will do, no need to check for twisted/untwisted pairs because all ports are now autosensing. IIRC Netgear has some cheap 4 and 8 ports Gbit models.

Have you considered those powerline network extenders?

It's a lot less cabling lying around for you and Play to trip up on whilst dancing at your house party.

I have, but my two-step is tight enough to not trip over cables. I already have the CAT5 lead in, so adding another box is cheaper than powerline plugs. I can hide cabling, I can't hide my killer grooves, nor would I want to. Peace out. Mic drop.
