    Neo Geo CD via BNC

I have a Pioneer PDP V402 screen which does RGB via BNC inputs. I am looking to hook up a modded Japanese Neo Geo CD console to it. Will I need a JP21 wired scart cable and matching JP21 BNC>RGB adapter?

With my V402 I used a BNC to male scart connector from the V402 plugged into a scart switch then just plugged all my retro consoles into the scart switch with standard RGB scart cables.. No reason to get a JP21 Cable for any consoles, you could actually damage your TV or console if you plug a JP21 wired scart into a standard scart input

Also I believe the Neo CD will work with a standard Mega Drive 1 scart cable if you have one of those, no need to buy anything special..

I don't have a Mega Drive so that option is out. I don't think I have a scart switcher any more either - will have to check in the garage. I used to have a joytech box but I'm sure I sold it. What type do you use?

Mine is a Thor scart switcher, 5 inputs and 1 output.. They make a newer version of it that has hdmi as well but a couple less scarts...

it doesn't have to be fancy as long as it's good quality you won't lose any signal.. It just makes connecting up multiple scart consoles easier as you only need to buy 1 BNC cable, rather than 1 for each console..

this is is the one I have: http://www.tvaudiocables.co.uk/item/...ch-28570t.html

not sure they make it any more though

Well I mostly started this topic to confirm that the JP NGCD console uses JP21 SCART, not the Euro type. It will probably be cheaper for me to buy the 2 required cables than to buy another scart switcher box. My Saturn is also Japanese so that will probably make use of the JP21 BNC adapter too.

You don't have to use JP21 cables on JPN consoles, in the vast majority of cases, the pinout of the AV ports match no matter what the region of the hardware.

Some import machines have composite sync as well as composite video, which can occasionally cause confusion when buying cables, but buying them from a retro shop who offer all the cables might be better as they should advise what would be suitable. A PAL Saturn doesn't output composite sync for example, instead it outputs a voltage to switch the TV to correct input (or enable RGB mode, I don't remember which off the top of my head). For this you can buy a PAL cable, an NTSC one or a universal.

A Neo CD output is the same the world over I believe.

If you see JP21 cables for sale now, it's generally thanks to the rise in popularity of the XRGB scalers.

There is an official JP21 Neo Geo SCART mind.

There probably is, what I meant was that more places are making/selling JP21 cables outside of Japan now that more people are using XRGB. Personally, if you're using more than one console, I'd go with Euro Scart cables to save having to swap stuff around.

No, your Saturn scart cable will most likely be wired for Euro scart output so it will work with a UK TV.. Only reason to buy a jp21 scart cable is if you have a Japanese TV or want to use one of the XRGB unit without an adapter as mentioned by mmmonkey..

Buy a standard euro scart cable for your JP NGCD console, that will work with the BNC adapter you get

Thanks for clearing that up guys. I guess I will start with standard EU cables and branch out if I run into problems.
