    TVs in the UK

Can anyone tell me about the standard tv's over there now. In Japan my HD-TV has some of the older ports such as S-video and VGA but is this case in the UK? Do sets still come with scart sockets and VGA and such? Wondering about what consoles to bring back to the UK with me and what I can actually get decent pictures out of without modding.

    Thanks

People will advise on retro (I'm not the best on that stuff) but all I can say for LCDs etc. is that it's a total lottery. They'll all have HDMI, but beyond that, I've seen all sorts of connections. For instance, my Panasonic LCD doesn't even have a SCART (it came with a special cable I plug in to a proprietary A/V port to use SCART). You just have to look them up before you buy them (one of the more useful things about TV bricks-and-mortar shops).

Bring EVERYTHING back, then we can buy it off you when you're not happy with the image.

My Panasonic plasma has everything, but it's 3 years old now. I guess the more you pay, the more you get.

Most new tellies still come with RGB Scart & Component but most have dropped VGA inputs.
Not sure on S-Video & Composite though but.

My G20 Plasma has a VGA input & Composite/S-Video but is 5 years old.
The VGA are normally deemed as not required now as even PC's generally have HDMi outputs for video.

my tv which is now 2 years old came with more USB sockets than anything else which I found completely un-necessary

just looked at the back of my telly and I have the following:
            lan, optical audio out, 1 x scart, 1 x component, 3 x HDMI, 4 x USB

Yeah, mine has 4x USB also.

I can only assume it's for some industrial purpose, as I can't imagine a situation where someone would use more than 3 (one for a Chromecast etc, one for a wifi USB dongle, maybe one for a USB hard disk...)

                I keep forgetting about USB
Mine has loads but then it does have a built in Media player & a PVR facility so they are fairly useful

Off the top of my head my TV has...

                Ethernet
                VGA
                Composite
                Component
                2 x Scart (1 RGB)
                S-Video
                PCMCIA input
                4 x HDMi (1 x ARC)
                SD Card Slot
USB's (Can't remember how many but around 3 or 4)
                Optical Out
                1 x Freesat HD Co-Ax connection

I've got a 2012 plasma, that only has HDMI, anything else has to be connected with an adapter into a proprietary socket

My GT50 is like that, done away with everything except HDMI & USB. RGB Scart, component and composite provided only via dongles.

Just realised after seeing the above, my TV also has a slot for something like a PCMCIA card. Hard to believe it as one of those and no SCART socket!

I do honestly fail to see why any TV would need to have a PCMCIA card slot

Checked my telly at lunch & it looks like I only have 2 USB's not the amount I said earlier.

Just to clarify, it may not be a PCMCIA. It just looks like one.

Didn't check closely but pretty sure my one actually says PCMCIA on it.
I can only assume you can use a wireless access card with it but past that I fail to see why it's there at all
