Coinops 7 from scratch

Yo!

My brother-in-law picked up an XBox and wants to mod it.

How easy is it to install Coinops 7 Massive on an XBox from scratch?
Has anyone done this recently? Does you still need a copy of Splinter Cell these days?

Any recommendations for a site with good, clear instructions for a n00b?

I had a quick google & it appears that softmodding is still a pain in the arse that invovles memory cards, Downloading files to the Memory card & Splinter Cell.

I did have a memory card & splinter cell a while back but no way to get the files on the memory card so think I got rid of both.

I have 2 soft modded machines myself (original which was my brothers & a Crystal which is mine) but I did the softmod on these using a kit that was supplied by a group on AV Forums that was lent round the group & then forwarded on.

Plus with a softmod it is harder to replace the HDD for a bigger one (which I'm sure is needed for Coinops & MAME anyway) so I think a Chip is the best way forward for this these days.

Aye, was gonna put a chip in my console whenever I can be bothered to get it up and running. Got a 120GB drive kicking around and ready but I'd probably only use it for playing games off of the HDD, which is silky smooth.

I used to have a chipped crystal with the drive loaded up with original xbox games, it was a dream, metal wolf chaos etc...would like that again. How much of a ball are the chips to fit?

Chip install isn't that difficult I think, not a huge fan of dissembling OG Xboxes though. Chips on ASSEMbler are ?7 or so.
