    n64 dark screen

Just picked up a us/jp rgb modded N64 on the forum.

However it produces a very dark screen. I have tried different games and cables.
Have tried plugging the scart straight into the tv and then tried through a framemeister mini.

    Still no joy.

You purchased an incorrectly modded console.

You might get away with using a cable for a PAL SNES though...

Try bumping up the A/D level on the FM. Other than its probably a re-mod

        Or......

The black version of this, boost the signal on one of my dark screen n64 mods, making it perfect

It's not often we bother with getting our hands dirty with the business of reviewing hardware here on Eurogamer; there …

It's probably the 3 wire mod without the signal boost. The wire boost creates interference, so try the pal snes cable which has an amp or get someone to mod it properly with an rgb chip.

Good news is that you have a good N64. Just spend a little time getting it right.

Is there anywhere still sells these? Or is it just a case of looking out on ebay etc? Cheers!

My original American RGB modded N64 gives quite a dark image on LCD screens. To give a bright image with an LCD, you need the modern RGB mod using the THS7314 amplifier. This is what people with early NTSC N64s use when they mod N64s the machine these days. I am thinking of having my mod replaced with this one.

p.s. There are other modern RGB mods that work with all N64 versions.
