Wireless streaming Video files from the PC to the Tv

Wife has her computer upstairs and was looking for a way so she can stream video from the PC to the TV anyone got any ideas ? some people have told be chromecast can, though it seems to be unofficial and fussy about file types.

ES File Explorer on phone/tablet and Chromecast plugged into the TV, set the PC to share the folders with the video in. Only has issues with avi files and DTS audio. Of if you have PS3/PS4 on the TV downstairs you have to set up mediaserver streaming on Windows Media Player.
Shockingly, the easiest might be an Ouya with XMB as that has no issue with avi.

You could run Plex on the PC which Chromecast does offically support.
What sort of video is it? Local files or streams from the internet?

A simple DLNA streamer is PS3 Media Server - http://www.ps3mediaserver.org/

Get https://plex.tv/ installed on the PC
              Install the free app on the 360 / PS3 / PS3 / Xbox One.
              Job done.

On windows 10 you can natively stream content to suitable DLNA devices. Just right click on the video and select 'cast to'.
I think most consoles would work fine.

Plex is free to download, but you have to pay a subscription to stream. At least that's what I read when I was looking at installing it the other day.

you only need to have a plex pass for advanced options like streaming over the Internet.

it's free for local network use

Yep, it needed a plex pass during beta, but is now available to all regardless. I'm using it on the Xbox One and it's fantastic

You can stream over the internet without the plex pass.

oh really? that's rad, I cancelled my pass but can still do it - I assumed it was because I still had days on my subscription left.

                            cool
