    Looking for similar titles

A friend's girlfriend has been playing Escape from Monkey Island on the PS2. He's asked me if I know of any similar titles that she might like, but I've drawn a blank. So, to get to the point...

Anybody know of any PAL PS2 games like Escape from Monkey Island?

Only ones i can think of is Syberia and Broken Sword The Sleeping Dragon on PS2, maybe perhaps Myst 3 Exile too if it is brain games he is looking for.

Buy a PC and get Grim Fandango - almost certainly the BEST pointy-clicky adventure game ever written. It's so far ahead of stuff like EFMI that words can't describe it!

      Everyone should play GF

As for adventure on the PS2, Broken Sword 3 is dead good. You could also get him to buy her a GBA & BS I for Christmas! There isn't much else in the way of "pure" adventure on the PS2 - you might want to prod him towards something like Final Fantasy I guess. The genre is fairly dead to be honest, and was only ever alive properly on the good old IBM compatible.

I second Grim Fandango... great puzzles, excellent humour and a fantastic visual style.

Plus you get to be the Grim Reaper!

It's also like Broken Sword 3 in the it looks like a 3D adventure but is a point and click in disguise.

Yeah Grim Fandango is superb and if you got a PC no matter how old, then get Curse of Monkey Island, Monkey Island, Monkey Island 2, Sam And Max, Day of the Tentacle, Full Throttle, Beneath a Steel Sky, for laughs and adventures.... all can be run under scummvm which lets these games run on more modern PC's

ScummVM is a program which allows you to run certain classic graphical adventure and role-playing games, provided you already have their data files. The clever part about this: ScummVM just replaces the executables shipped with the games, allowing you to play them on systems for which they were never designed! ScummVM is a complete rewrite of these games' executables and is not an emulator.

Does Grim Fandango run under XP?

Think you need to find patches. I had enough trouble under Win2k.

It is WORTH installing 98 for a week just to play it though

Aye, 2k needed an application compatibility patch but I think it's been added to service packs since as I installed it on my w2k SP4 install after reading this thread and it was fine.
