I'm thinking about what pads to go for once I eventually get set up with one of these. SNES 8bitdo would be the sensible choice I suppose as I'd be able to use them on my SNES as well - but I'm also looking at short-term cost-effective alternatives.
These look hideous, yet I'm hearing nothing but good things about them. Does anyone here have one?
Outside of new pads entirely I'm wondering if those dodgy Chinese SNES>USB adapters work, and if they introduce any input latency at all.

I have one of those Buffalo pads. The buttons are ok but the d-pad is clanky. When I press it down in the centre or diagonals, it makes a whack! sound. They're only a fiver in Japan, though, so I can't complain. Buying another so that my wife and I can play SNES games on the plane.
There's also one by Elecom which looks a bit better in the pictures but I found one in-store and it felt the same as my Buffalo one.
I'm going to open mine and see if I can swap the board with my real SNES pad.

i use a buffalo and its a decent and certainly functional. Any duration of useage though, i'd get a stick. Stick compatability is great with the Pi; i have tried the Neo Geo x stick and an xbox 360 hori SE and both were recognised by it and work fine.
