Recommended Purchase & Tips for PC Engine Turbo Duo Replacement Cap Kit and RGB Amp

    Hi Folks,

Can any of you kindly point me the in the right direction to the best site to purchase a Turbo Duo (original model) replacement Cap Kit and RGB Amp. The CD audio on my machine is fine if a little Low but on some CD games the sound affects are very faint to almost none existent. Are surface mount caps now the preferred method ?

Secondly what would also the be the best RGB mod to carry out on this machine THS7314 ?

There is of course a ton of info online but thought I would speak with you guys first to see of anyone has any experience in carrying the mods out and any little tips you may have.

    Cheers

THS7314 is old and busted, the THS7317 is the new hotness. Basically there's a low pass filter with the 7314 and it can be disabled in the 7317 which, in theory, would mean a cleaner image. There's not much in it though...

As for a cap kit: https://console5.com/store/nec-turboduo-cap-kit.html

As for a amp I'd grab this, though he doesn't ship abroad so... yeah: http://voultar.com/index.php?route=p...&product_id=53

Excellent for the help. I'll do some homework on the THS7317.

      Thanks for the links

There's always the 7316 based AMP, easier to solder and doesn't have the low pass filter of the 7314

2021 Update: No ETA on restock Miniature "mickris" surface-mount RGB amplifier kit for NEC consoles using the THS7316 amplifier IC.  Available here in DIY form for the first time! Turbo Grafx-16

            For info folks,

I purchased a cap kit from here (one cap was missing though),

and an RGB amp from here,
PC Engine 7374 RGB Mod Kit Includes DIN8 connector, modding wire, jailbar fix caps, retrogamingcables do pce scarts just for this mod, or I can include a megadrive din 8 for use with this scaler for hdmi setups, just add a note with the order. - Latest 7374 based RGB Amplifier 75 ohm terminated sync. Compatible with Core / Core II / Turbo Grafx / Duo / Duo-R / Duo-RX / Super Grafx. Includes DIN8 PCB mount connector (DIN8 or mini DIN8 panel mount connector available on request) Includes replacement caps for Jailbar fix I plug these in to check they work before dispatching. This board is correctly attenuated for consumer displays. Voltage levels have been checked with an osscilloscope. (see final image showing sync and blue colour signal voltage levels) . Target should be around 660mV for the RGB lines, and sync should be between 250mV and 900mV for SCART Hu6260 pinout Mod board Installation instructions: 1. Replace DIN Connector 2. Solder sync and G,R,B wires to Pins 44, 47, 49, 51 on 6260 chipLay a piece of of flexistrip on top of chip to keep wires in place.5v and GND can also be tapped directly and even the 4.7u jailbar caps can be soldered between digital and analogue 5v/gnd pins. 3. Solder to mod board inputs, then solder GRB mod outputs to top 3 pins of DIN8 (as in pictured) 4. Sync goes to underside of DIN8 with trace cut as seen, 5 Solder 5v and gnd to mod board, use your multimeter continiuty setting to find nearest 5v and GND points for the mod board. --- Retro gaming cables stock DIN 8 compatible scarts for duo, duo-r, turbo grafx here, you don't need the sync seperator option If you want to use an easier method and add a separate mini din8 panel mount connector you can use this cable, I'll include this connector anyway Any queries, just contact [email protected]
