trying to get pro logic 2 from GC. How? -reciever recommenda

    Ok...

I have a PAL GC and some creative 5.1 speakers and an Extigy. I know the extigy doesnt do pro logic 2 decoding so i 'think' i need to buy a reciever or amp (please correct me if im wrong)

anyways, so can anyone recommend me a receiver which is cheap? eg hopefully nothing more than ?150? The cheaper the better!

Im also a bit puzzled how to get surround sound from the GC. With my xbox i can hook the optical line to my extigy to get 5.1 but with GC i have only ever seen a normal scart cable, how in the world do i hook the sound up?

Is it possible to hook everything (tv vcr sky) to use my 5.1 speakers?

I'm sure you can get a SCART lead with phono cables attached from somewhere...

I haven't got a surround system but I wouldn't mind connecting my Gamecube up to my amp so I'm on the lookout for such a cable.

Edit: This should do the trick. Looks like you need to buy phono leads too though.

Dont get too hung up on PL II as the difference between PL and II on most gamecube games is not worth mentioning.

I think you'd better clean out your ears myfriend, PLII is in another league when it comes to sound reproduction. Remember not all GC games have a PLII soundtrack and although PL-PLII enhance any stereo source a game actually encoded with a PLII soundtrack sounds exeptional and is lightyears ahead of the same soundtrack in standard PL.
If you are using the official Nintendo RGB cable you have two ways to connect it to your sound system. Most newer tv's 25inch and above will have fixed audio outputs(red&white phono RCA connections)on the back of the tv, simply connect these to your amps audio inputs and then anything you connect and play on your tv will produce sound through said connections. if your tv does not have fixed audio outs on the back simply buy a scart splitter from Argos/Index and do the same with the fixed audio outs on that.
Try Richer Sounds for a cheap amp & speaker package

Everything that fuzzybee says is true. The easiest way is to connect your TV to your amp,and so any sound from the GC will come out in lovely PLII(providing you buy an amp with PLII technology!).I have just spunked out on a Denon 2803 and a set of KEF speakers and sub and it is unreal.Playing on the Gamecube is scary.I cannot wait to play Resi 4 on my set up.

Thanks for the advice Fuzzebee I bought some cotton buds and you are right, dont know what I have been missing out on up until now

Seriously though, I do know the difference between different sound formats and I am one of the fussiest of ****ers when it comes to quality, for example I really begrudge buying dvds because of the crap quality most of them are compared to say D-Theater Tapes, and can't wait till a proper hi-def disc format is agreed on so we can all enjoy stunning pictures and less compressed sound.
I am also using Meridian 568.2mm processor with a Parasound 2205 5 channel amp and a rotel rb991 2 channel for the centre rears, so I really am fussy about quality otherwise I wouldnt have just short of ?7,000 worth of amplification/processing in my system.
All I was saying is that everyone reckons that listening to Pro Logic is ****e when you can have PL II, but a fair PLII amp can be beat by a stunning Pro Logic amp hands down.
Some software will sound better on a system with both formats, but I know a coouple of people who have changed from a decent ?600 av amp with just Pro Logic to a ?300 av amp with PLII just to get this format and they have been very dissapointed, so I just think we have to be a little careful when we say that PL II is clearly better, given both formats are on the same processor then I would agree that PLII will generally be the better option but I would only upgrade to get a better amp then an existing one not just to gain PLII.
Anyway PLII is dead and is being replaced by PLIIx at the moment to take into account 6.1 and 7.1 set ups, Luckily Meridian provide it via a download for my processor so it will only take me 10 mins to upgrade my system, but I bet you will see loads of av amps up for sale soon from the boys who have to have this new format. From what I have heard alot of the people who have upgraded already have not been over impressed so far btw.

Glad your hearing problems are sorted gIzzE i am not doubting your knowledge of soundformats or anything else for that matter. I only tried to get across to the original poster that PLII on the GC is vastly superior to PL but to get the full benefit of it the game must have a PLII soundtrack encoded into the game.
I wouldn't say PLII as a format is dead though DD & DTS 5.1 soundformats are not dead just because DD offer a matrixed 6.1 signal and DTS a Discreet 6.1 signal.
They are just extentions of the format which can be used if speaker setup and amp/receiver/processor specs allow, i suspect a 5.1 speaker configuration will always remain the standard for "home" cinema meaning PLIIx and it's extra center rear channel will only be used via a very small minority, this is where the cost and effort are not rearlly worth it, but upgrading from PL to PLII certainly is

Does anyone have a catalogue number or URL for a SCART splitter that supports RGB. The product descriptions on the Argos website don't say.
