Whats this weird noise at the back of my computer?

I hear some kind of grinding noise like its coming from one of the fans or something which has been happening for a few days now. I'm a bit worried because I recently installed a Powercolor 9800 pro and I was wondering if its overheating or something and if all those rumours of it having a cheap cooling fan are true. I hope not..

So I shut down and boot up again and it goes away. Does anyone know have a clue as to what this could be?

Can I get a two for one while I'm here do ya think? Oh why not, its Xmas!

The other issue I have is with my monitor which 9 times out of 10 will boot up fine but on the odd occasion it has these weird flickering broken lines or dashes all over the screen but disappear when I restart. Can CRT monitors have broken pixels or something or is that something else?

One of your fans needs cleaning/lubricating.

The broken lines you see are an Ati card problem. Seen it many a time on Radeon cards. It's either agp,bios or a weak psu issue. Most likely the psu/mobo isn't providing the correct voltage on boot.

Could be a cable getting in the way of a fan also, had that happen to me before.

Ah right, thanks. I'll try lubricating it then in that case. I noticed it does go away eventually so it might just be cable in the way.

As for my monitor I had a feeling it was something to do with my ATI card because even when typing in MS Word, I sometimes I get dark and light letters or an almost shaded look to some words.
