Rainbow six 3 headset question!

Like many people i took advantage of play.com's ridiculous price of ?17.99 for Rainbow six 3 before christmas and have found the game to be every bit as good as people said it was. I only found out yesterday that there is a thrustmaster pack with a headset but its ?49.99!!. Ive checked out the thrustmaster website but it appears they are not selling it individually.Anyway

1.Is it only this headset that is compatible with the game?


2.Does anyone know if there are any good third party headsets beside the bundled one that i could buy?

As far as I'm aware the ?49.99 one is the same as the boxed one in the shops seems like youve just found somewhere selling at the rrp (no one else is at the moment)

I think the thrusmaster one is a third party version of the xbox live one. from the picture I've seen its a bit cooler looking. Slightly thinner more like a Telesales operators/receptionists rather than the slightly clunky lve one.

It's maybe worth bearing in mind that when you buy the live starter kit for ?40 you get 3 demos and a head set. If you buy the headset alone its ?20. Apart from Rainbow Six the headset isn't used by any other games offline (please correct me if I'm wrong) The thought of having a spare one might sound cool if you can go Live but remember only the logged in user can use voice comms so the other 'guest' players hear the voice chat though the TV. Unless another person logs on at your Xbox with their gamertag + code.

I don't think RS3 has a split screen mode either

To summise
Buy a mike seperately for one small function in one game. If your never going on Live but cross your fingers that other games might start to use it.
If you plan on going live some time buy the pack and activeate the account later.

The use of the headset in rainbow6-3 is really cool though, all the radio communication from the game to you comes through the ear-peice, which is really neat.

I'd pay ?20 just for that tbh.
