MP3 - adding fade in, fade out (simple?)

As title, trying to add 2-3 second fade in and fade out to an MP3.

What programs will let me do this?

    Any tips appreciated

I think the Nero Wave Editor program lets you do this, it's pretty simple from what I recall. I used it to make a radiohead ringtone for my SPV.

Just checked and it does support mp3's.

Soundforge is probably one of the best.

If you want a cheap wave editor though that does all this kind of stuff (linear fades, normalisation, etc), just download the latest version of EAC (exact audio copy). As well as being the best cd ripper on the planet (because it's the most accurate), it also contains a fairly complete wave editor now that allows basic sample manipulation. And of course, it's completely free.

Exact Audio Copy is a so called audio grabber for CDs using standard CD and DVD-ROM drives. The main differences

        Thanks for the replies

I couldn't find Nero Wave Editor on Download.com but got Soundpad (only 115kb) which seemed to offer what I wanted but its rubbish, as expected

Vaipon, downloaded EAC 0.85beta and when I launch it says:

"The ASPI Interface could not be initialized correctly ! (error E8h)

        No host adapters found"

Any ideas? Which is better download? There are a few

All the options to edit waves in EAC are under the tools menu. You can't directly edit mp3s though, they have to be decompressed to a WAV first. NERO does this auto. In EAC, there is a "decompress" option under tools which handles this.

If you are totally new to audio editing, EAC is maybe a little too difficult as a lot of the format conversions (mp3->WAV->mp3) are done manually.

Anyway, if you do decide to use it, there is an option under tools called "process wav..." which will open the sample editor. This is where you can apply effects to the sample such as fade in/out.

            Have fun...

I use mp3trim. Probably becasue it is simple to use.

A bonus being it works a treat.

I had file as a .wav aswell (converted in CD Ex). Sorted it now and it was nice and simple once I'd opened file.
