    GameCube HDTV options?

We've had our GameCube under the telly for years, disconnected, so I was thinking of hooking it up. Unfortunately, in the process, I ran into some problems.

Right now, my TV only has 1 analog input. This is currently taken up by a compo-VHS-posite-ponent-YBc/TRGGcrpgpGFRPGFpRGG cable (don't know what it is, don't care) which connects to the TV at one end, and at the other, splits into three; connectors for the PS2, OG Xbox and Wii. I use it for my PS2, and it's a pretty good quality cable; I remember at the time when I got it, it came highly recommended and it gives a good picture.

Unfortunately, this doesn't support the cube, because the cube has the same connector as the N64, which changed with the Wii.

That means I only really have two options; either an adaptor which lets the GC use the Wii cable (unlikely) or an HDMI adaptor. I could use a Wii, which is an option, but we have a WiiU, so much of the Wii's functionality will be wasted, and I hate having to use the Wiimotes to actually boot up a GameCube game.

I know there are HDMI adaptors for the GameCube, but I also know they run like £100. I'd really like one but I won't pay more than £40-odd for a cable. Does anyone know any other options?

Super-duper quality is not as important to me as simply having the thing working.

Use the Wii to play GC games? Or is it one of the more rencent Wiis without GC compatibility?

You can get a 4-port component switch, but you'll need to power it, and get the component cables for all consoles, plus a fifth cable to connect the switch to the TV (if not included already).

Unfortunately this may be the only option.

If you have a DOL-001 you won’t be able to use the HDMI adapters, nor are they designed for PAL Cubes in the first place anyway. Go Wii!

Tried our old Wii; the thing about the Wii is that it needs a functioning Wiimote in order to bypass the safety warning and start a disc (it won't let you do this with a GameCube pad plugged in). So that means it needs a sensor bar.

In the end, I went with the Wii. It's little irritances aside, the picture pretty good at 480p.

Another option would be to softmod your WiiU and play your GC games from a hard drive on it, if you would like to reduce the number of boxes under your TV.

But, yeah, as above, Wii is the easiest option for sure.

Also, the cable that you don't know or care about is component! I don't know why I'm telling you this because you don't care but I am!

You can force the Wii to boot straight to the home brew channel from which you can select gamecube game with a GC controller. I think.
