    Uplink - great game

I got this yesterday and have been very impressed with it simply because it plays unlike anything else.

I know it's quite old now and has probably been discussed countless times before, but what the heck, someone new may stumble in 'ere

Uplink is based around hacking, and being an 'agent' the player must take on missions from various companies in order to hack other companies and make money. Missions are varied and the game is fairly easy to get into, though it probably does get dull after a while.

    Anyone else?

Uplink is an amazing game! The thrill of hacking and getting the hell out of the server just in time is something which this game does wonderfully well. Its just such a different experience to anything else out there that I have played.

I have only played the demo and you have just reminded me about this game so I may purchase a copy in the near future.

Anyone who loves Champ Manager and is into computers will like this game, I am sure of it. Please don't dismiss this game because of its looks, , its a great experience.

I've had it since it first came out. It truely is a great game, if a little difficult in the later stages. V.Good independent game though, with low end graphics

Actually thinking about it, just reminds me of Amiga games

      Anyway, its still great

The game can be a very immersive experience (many nights spent hunched over a keyboard, the blue glow of the monitor being the only light source in the room) but I just felt that the punishment system seemed far too picky and severe and didn't really inspire you to try harder or push those risks further.

This is a great game to start with but it does get boring quickly (I didn't play it much after the first major update so I don't know how much that added).

I found that once you could hack banks you could suddenly make extreme amounts of money and buy all equipment and everything became very easy. Before I could hack a bank everything was a bit slower but much more fun.

Just finished the demo, I've had it on my laptop for months, but only remembered to play it last night, it's bloody tense stuff. Keeping one eye on the connections being compromised on the map as they turn red while trying to crack the security and disconnecting at the last second I'm thinking of getting the full version, I'm interested to see if the story develops.

I too got this game when it first came out, and for a while I really enjoyed it.

However I stopped playing because it blatently jipped me one day:

              (possible spoiler)

I was happily playing and it game overed me for something I did in game literally weeks before - kind of like 2 months ago you hacked this you naughty boy game over

              Stopped playing after that!

Really good, immersive game though. Proves you don't need flashy graphics but good playability to make a great game!

Fan sites releasing what mate? Quality game this, reminded me of a text-based game I had on my Spectrum along similar lines many moons ago.

Is this some online game or something? Never heard of it, but it sounds good.

Online you can download new missions and LANS (absolutely rock to crack) and skins etc.

It's not online chad but it does have a built in irc chat client which is sorta online. Shame they're not making a sequal would of been brilliant to be able to have a sort of online freelancer style small universe of people.

It should be dead cheap to pick up now try amazon or ebay. i got mine brand new for about 11 quid when it came out, absolute bargain.

It was mentioned in the Introversion feature in the ICO2 Edge a few months ago. http://www.uplink.co.uk/

Yeah it's the collectors one. I would of got it, but at the time i wasnt working. When i was, and had the money, they had stop selling it

By the way did anyone ever manage to do the ARC missions etc? Mine always used to be buggy, and never let me start the missions, thus the whole Revelation vs fight never came into play
