    SNES Cartridge Battery Replacement

The battery in Super MarioWorld is starting to go as my saves are being deleted at random.

What I want to know is if the "battery" - so to speak -can be replaced like the one in a PC hardrive or is it a not a battery at all.

If it can be replaced where would I get one. Rs Components??

Anybody sucessfully carried out this job???

    Thanks in advance.

I've just taken a cart apart. It needs a CR2032 battery available from anywhere.

The replacement battery may need to soldered inplace as the one in my cart seems to have some small spot welds the keep it in place.

Yes, the battery is solderable CR2032 (with these spot welded clips). Any clocksmith will solder it in for you.

do find some way of backing up your savegames before you do this... if you remove the battery you will lose all your saves.
if you like living dangerously then you might be able to bodge a battery on in parallel whilst the old battery is removed & replaced.
            I wouldn't fancy it though.

It's worth getting a CR2032 with solder tags already attached, simply because it can be a bit dangerous heating a complete battery. The gunk that can leak out is nasty stuff.

Yeah, you should never, ever directly solder a battery. It will likely ruin the battery never mind your health.

Whats the point of backing them up when it wont be possible to get the saves back onto the cart?

I post there occasionally and there was a guy who posted there with the exact same name as you. Its not exactly a common name now is it.

Maybe you should track him down for copyright

Is there a common provider of this service?

If no one's doing it then surely they're missing a trick.

None of my SNES/SFC carts have lost their batteries yet but it's only a matter of time and I daren't go near them with my clumsy hands.

I think http://www.consolepassion.co.uk offer it as a service.

Just checked, and he certainly replaces them, not sure about keeping the save games though...
