What N64 stuff should I get

Right then, after downloading several roms for Surreal 64, I've decided I want to do things properly and get an actual N64 again.

I have a few ideas about what games to get but would appreciate any other suggestions so I can add them to the list below.

What I really want to know however, is if it is worth getting hold of a NTSC or Pal machine. Which games are normally cheaper and are there any compatability problems with games like a US conkers or Banjo Tooie on a Pal machine?

Anyway, here's my list of stuff I plan to collect.

    10890 Snowboarding
    Bangai o
    Banjo Kazooie
    Banjo Tooie
    Beetle Adventure Racing
    Blast Corps
    Body Harvest
    Castlevania Legacy of Darkness
    Conkers Bad Fur Day
    Diddy Kong Racing
    Donkey Kong 64
    Excitebike 64
    F-Zero X
    Goemans Great Adventure
    Goldeneye
    Harvest Moon 64
    Jet Force Gemini
    Majora's Mask
    Ocarina of Time
    Mario Golf
    Mario Kart
    Mario Party 2
    Mario Tennis
    Mischief Makers
    Ogre Battle 64
    Paper Mario
    Perfect Dark
    Pilot Wings 64
    Pokemon Snap
    Shadowman
    Sin and Punishment
    Space Station Silicon Valley
    Star Fox
    Super Mario 64
    Super Smash Bros
    Wave Race
    Yoshi's Story

I know that some of these games only appeared abroad, so that I'm going to need some sort of adaptor at one point (unless of course it's easy to get hold of NTSC stuff)

    Cheers in advance

Could you perhaps give me a better explanation, rather than simply sounding like a NTSC RULZ fanboy.

I can't remember for the life of me if US games run faster through a passport adaptrer, if this isn't the case, then a NTSC machine is obviously the best bet.

erm dont insult me then pls!

The pal ones awful in every usual way, adaptors dont run everything and im pretty certain they dont 'up' the speed on foreign games.

Id get a US one cos it plays JAP games with no modding AFIK (mine may have had tabs removed but i dont think so) and make sure u get a good rbg mod on it (which mine isnt...Charlies Games Newcastle, consoles butchered since 1995).

Oh and Harvest Moon 64 and Castlevania are foul.

See, that's really helpful mate. Any idea how much a US machine would go for?

Most NTSC models can be RGB modded, whereas PAL versions can't - actually, I think an early French model can if you fancy a search.

Your list of games is good - don't forget Bangaioh though, & I'd also give a nod to Yuke Yuke Troublemakers/Mischief Makers as well.

I take it the NTSC version is SVHS? If so, I'm not really fusssed because I get a better picture on my Tosh than with RGB (strange but true).

Totally agree. Most N64 PAL conversions were abysmal. Waverace was particularly bad - with the PAL conversion it was like the sea was made of treacle. Shouldn't be too hard to pick up a US console, and there's plenty of NTSC carts floating about in the UK - mine all got nicked a few years back, so that's 20 odd at least.

Right then, looks like its a us machine, I've already been shocked with how cheap Conkers is on Ebay at the mo ($10 on average).

Price wise i have no clue but I'l second the vote on Mischief Makers, and Sin and Punishment is everything you'v heard and more (the flying level - say no more). Also id not touch a second hand pad unless id physcially fiddled with the stick (honk) cos they get full of lovely dead skin in my experience (had a million n64s thro my hands at my time at the foul GAME).

Oh also dont pay 40 quid or so for a 4 meg expansion...iv seen them for a tenner so dont be fooled by their 'rareness'.

I had some n64 games up on a trade thread if u wana do a search for that..iv forgotten which ones were on it.

Cheers Angel, I'll hunt them out. I may be saved now as my cousin has a US machine and about 18 of the games I want

I'll still have to get Conkers and Perfect Dark but can pick em up for less than 15 dollars (for both) in the US.

                          Roll on Thursday

Excellent stuff, Perfect Dark Mutiplayer is hilarious...use the 'sentry gun' weapon (that attacks other players on sight) on a spawn point for much hilarity. I enjoyed Turoks 1 and 2 a lot aswell despite their reputations so they may be worth it if you like FPSs. Actually Turok 1 is amazing, im gona download it so i dont have to live with my n64s filckering screen.

One thing i find really hard is using the right side of a pad for movement and the left sided stick for 'look' in all these games. Its hard to unlearn modern FPS controls.

I'v utterly digressed, apologies to all concerned :P

I just noticed you dont have an ISS title in that list of games you are after. The games are still good if you are after a more arcadey footy game compared to PES.
