Moved to Japan, have RGB Scart consoles..please help

    Hi,

I recently moved to japan along with my consoles and scart-rgb switch box. I want to connect toa a Japanese TV via RGB to avoid compatability issues. The consoles in question are an Xbox, Gamecube and PS2. They will all be connected by RGB cables to an RGB scart box which will the hopefully be connected by an scart->component cable (if such a thing exists).

    Is such a setup feasable?

Any advice would be most welcome.

I assume that Japanese TVs cope happily with interlaced 625 line video...

    a quick google:

    found this:

    and this is cheaper:

(... aside to self: they have a nice looking auto scart switch too... only 3 inputs though)

It would not be hard to make your own, if you can weild a soldering iron.
This link has a diy VGA>YPrPb convertor: http://www.keohi.com/keohihdtv/inter...ranscoder.html

Scart has composite syncs rather than the seperate H and V syncs shown in the schematic... you would want to remove the components connected to the H and V syncs, and just add the CVBS signal via a suitable resistor... oh you would also want to terminate it with 75 ohms before you did that.

Yes, but it would be easier to buy component video cables for those consoles instead. It would be cheaper, and the picture quality better.

You'd be looking at approx ?20 per console. Then you could buy a component video switcher.

I can't think of any compatibility problems with this - what were you worried about?

*edit* apart from incompatibilty between some pal Xboxs and component video, doh.

Also, I'd guess most jpn TVs don't support 50Hz, which would cause problems with a pal GameCube and/or pal PS2.

pal xbox's will do component video, they just wont do progressive scan.

        so you know.

          PS2 component

So far I have tried my PS2 with a component cable. However the image rolled due to the refresh rate. I'm hoping that my GC will still work via component since most of its games appear to supprt 60Hz mode

            Gc Ok

Update, my GC now works very nicely via Component D1, as long as the game supports 60Hz mode. Out of all my games only Bomberman doesnt work, so that goes to converted composite instead. Metroid looks an absolute dream now.

As Far as my PS2 goes, Im happy enough with the output from my SVideo signal converter, since most of its games dont go to 60Hz I dont have many other options even with a component cable. I may buy a US PS2 and mod it. Can anyone tell me how that would playback the PAL games? (i.e. at 60Hz or still 50Z.. any colour problems etc?) I heard that sound may be out of synch on some dancing games..is that the worst of it?

Can anyone tell me if all PAL XBox games support 60Hz playback? If that is the case I imagine I could use component for that as well.. anyone have experience of doing so? (i.e. PAL Xbox via component on NTSC TV at 60Hz?)

Thanks again for all the replies

Why not take advantage buying Japanese consoles.

                Buying japanese consoles

I most likely will buy japanese consoles once I feel that my PAL equipment has settled in as best it could.

After that I can judge if its worth getting into the possible hassle of trying to get my PAL games to work on the Japanese consoles or not.

For GC I think not, since it now peforms very well, plus I can buy US games from now on if I really want to play it safe and use Freeloader to avoid buying a Pal game without 60Hz mode.

For PS2... possibly worth getting japanese and modding as long as others have had good experiences running their PAL games on modded NTSC PS2s on NTSC TVs . I think its lens is dying anyway.

For my XBox, Im not sure , I feel that the PAL games should all run at 60Hz nicely via component anyway (hence the questions above).
