Wind Waker on the GameCube via Prog Scan - any good?

As I don't yet have a US/Japanese Cube (but am thinking of getting one) I'm curious what the picture quality is like if using a US version of Wind Waker and outputting onto a VGA monitor via Progressive Scan (with a suitably modified component cable).

Are the edges particularly jagged, or does it look far better than what could be achieved via a composite output to a TV?

    Thanks,
    Phil

for a start component/vga will look far batter than compisite full stop, although it will make the jaggies even more obvious.

when you turn the progressive on it will be the same effect as say changing a pc game from 640x480 to 1024x768 so there will be a big jump.

ntsc cube vga interlaced is 720x480i which is like 240 lines shown alternately, first the 240 odd lines and then the 240 even lines, this is repeated 30 times a second.

ntsc cube vga progressive is 720x480p which is all 480 lines shown in one pass and this is done 60 times a second.

I can take a couple of pictures of it in both modes so you can see a difference later, this is on a big screen though so it wont give you a true idea on your monitor.

The scanlines on my screen from 12ft are visible in interlaced mode and just visible when double on large areas of colour, if I triple the the image they disapear unless I am a foot away but I am tripling the 480i image and adding information that is not actually there which makes the image a little too soft.

    hope this helps a little.

Thanks very much for the info, pictures would be nice but not a problem if you don't have the time.

There's some noticeable dithering on Wind Waker in VGA but overall it's hugely preferable to a TV (as with almost any game). If you can then i'd definitely recommend GC VGA, but bear in mind not all games support progressive scan.

          Thanks trickytree, that's good news.

Yeah, I know some NTSC games don't support prog scan - I wonder why that is?

Anyone know what's involved in making a game prog scan capable?

I also wonder if there is any way at all to get non prog scan games to display via a component cable on my VGA monitor?

          Thanks,
