    CRT TV & 240p test suite

    As an intro;
    Info page: http://junkerhq.net/xrgb/index.php?t...40p_test_suite
    Download page: https://artemiourbina.itch.io/240p-test-suite
    Developer: https://shmups.system11.org/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=35554
    Some 240p info: https://www.hdretrovision.com/240p
    Interesting article: https://www.inputmag.com/...-240p-test-suite-can-help

    So I'm fiddling with the 240p test suite on my N64 now, can someone enlighten me what this message means exactly:
    "The Nintendo 64 system can not display the full 320x240 information drawn into the frame buffer. As a result, several pixels are never shown on screen. This is completely normal, and official games have this same behaviour. As such it is recommended you don't use these tests for multi console setups, but they work perfectly fine for Nintendo 64."

    Do other consoles have the same 'issue'? In a multi console setup (NES through Wii + PS2 in my case), which console would be best to use the 240p test suite then??

    I tend to use the PS1 version.

      I've never seen that warning before. I use the SNES and PCE versions.

      It's totally fine though, really, as it's pointless trying to get utterly perfect X/Y CRT geometry if you're using multiple systems on the one display - each console will plonk its display slightly differently from the next, so you're always going to be messing with the geom controls if you're really that fussy.

      The best way to go about things is to have a CRT for each console, or a fancy BVM with a physical control panel so that you can quickly and practically shift your image about.

      Me, I play SFC mostly - so I configure my CRT for that and just let everything else slide. The PSX and PS2 sit nicely in that frame, too. The Mega Drive and Neo Geo are completely out, as are many arcade cores on the MiSTer. Thankfully most of them come with manual vert/hori shifting within their menus. If only the developers would implement the same for all of the console cores... bleh bleh, something about accuracy.

        I tuned my monitor using a game I knew was properly 240p long ago, just overscanned it slightly because I don't like seeing underscan. I can adjust horizontal position and vertical height on the side of the monitor but the other controls are on the chassis so not easily accessible. Has been good for me for the last 8 years anyway!

              I notice via the test suite that 240p is in overscan, and 288p has black borders. Isn't that odd??
