Its sounds like some software bug when music is played.

I'd recommnd a BIOS flash, judging by what i read.

You need to check your MOBO (exactly) and download the latest BIOS patch from the manufacturers site. This then needs to be flashed on to the BIOS ram.
Its a slightly complex process, and must be done in DOS. Read your Motherboard manual or check manufacturers site for details.

Try updated Sound card drivers. I have the latest ones for your card on my webspace.

I'm quite happy to flash the bios, but I'm running Win XP and can't get to dos . I formatted a floppy to be a boot one and went into dos like that, but the instructions with the aflash.exe utility just didn't work (the commands were borked - it wouldn't even see the C: drive ).

Can you give me a bit of help on this please? The problems are getting worse :'(.

Have you ever tried to set it so that the bios boots from the floppy drive but nothing else? That might take you into dos. Although a friend with Windows 98 that could create a start up disk would be better.

Probably because your XP HDD is formatted to NTFS. You shouldn't actually need access to the HDD to flash the bios though. Just make sure that all the files you need (the flash util and the bin file for the BIOS) are on the floppy.

If the files are still too big to fit on a standard floppy, you could stick them on a bootable CDR instead, and run it all from there.

              good luck

Well I managed to flash it alright, I guess now we have to wait and see whether it's made a difference .

Cheers for the advice guys .

Ahhh ****, it's gone and done it again with the same reasons. Can anybody else think of the reason?

I just had a quick look, and it would seem that the kmixer.sys is a bit fruity. Have you done a windows update to take you machine to the latest patch level?

Indeed I have, and it seems that the actual error message itself has only surfaced since the windows update. Whether that shows deeper meaning or is of no use, I wouldn't know .

Windows PE (Pre-installation Environment) is a great CD to have at times like this. Its a self-booting CD that will load the basic OS kernel with networking support and give you a command line shell. Its the easiest way to see way to get at your harddrive when its formatted with NTFS, unless you buy one of those third party boot discs.

Yeah it is great, but then only companies with multiple system setups get it from Microsoft.... There is a free alternative though, Bart's PE Builder...

Anyway ontopic, I recommend rolling back the drivers and leaving it to be honest (just install the security updates) and see how it goes.
