NES PowerPak Compact Flash card formatting problem (FAT16)

    I screwed up royally tonight.

I wanted to add a 240p test suite to my NES PowerPak, and instead of doing so via my XP rig, which is set-up for the PowerPak, I thought I'd just pop it in my Win10 rig, since it also has a CF card slot. Win 10 says there's an error, so I close it down immediately.

Well now the card is borked.

It's an official SanDisk Ultra II 2.0 GB - was working 100% fine since 2013 when I bought it. I think I bought it off someone here?? Anyway...

The NES/PowerPak refuses to recognise the card. It keeps bringing up errors depending on which formatting solution I attempt:
    00 Bad Format - Try FAT16/FAT32
    72 Bad Format - Try FAT16/FAT32
    6E Bad Format - Try FAT16/FAT32

I've tried formatting to FAT and FAT32 on both the Win 10 and XP rig, using the Win OS and also a couple of utilities.

Also, dumb question: when Win XP asks if I want to choose between FAT and FAT32, does it mean FAT16 and FAT32? I'm assuming normal FAT without a number is FAT16?

The above number errors change depending on the cluster size. I set it to 8kb per a recommendation to someone with the same problem on another forum. He claimed it worked. For me it does not. If I try to format on XP it only gives me the option for the default cluster size (not sure what it is/was). If I try via the Win 10 OS it does not allow 8kb clusters on regular FAT. The utility which I used, and which allows manual cluster selecting, only does FAT32 nothing else.

Either way, I've ruined my CF card and my NES flash cart.

Does anyone have experience with the PowerPak? What exactly is going on here?

Can anyone recommend a reliable utility to format a Compact Flash card to FAT16 with 8kb cluster size?

There's several utilities for FAT32, but I can't find any specifically for FAT16. The built in Windows formatter tends to suck.

Please don't suggest I use Linux like a friend suggested, since I do not have Linux.

If you have a NES PowerPak yourself and you're able to reliably format your own, could I post you my CF card, so you can format it and test it out? I don't need the drivers or anything else, I already have them, I just need to get this formatted right. I will of course pay return postage and a bit extra for your time.

    Anyone?

    Fixed!

Solution for anyone else with the problem.

I tried three computers (xp, 7, and 10), and a whole bunch of utilities.

In the end, only "SD Card Formatter" by Tuxera fixed it. FAT16, default clusters of 32kb.
