Can you force WiFi calling on phones?

I've tried with a couple of phones and different providers in the past. Despite trying tips and searching, the phone or provider seemed to choose whether to try the mobile network or WiFi.

Does anyone know of any methods? Android preferably unless Apple has some magical method.

Try this - turn on Airplane Mode, then manually turn on Wifi.

I used to have to do this when I worked in a reception blindspot. It would drain my phone's battery really fast unless I did it.

Thanks for your suggestion and for replying. This has worked for me a couple of times but it would drop off after a short while. Its a weird one.

Possible solution which resolved a VoIP issue at a prior job - check if your router has a setting which auto-selects its wifi channel.

Most routers these days have a setting where it can check what channels are in use in the area, and try to pick one which is not being used. The problem is that if you have 10 routers doing this on a street, they might get into a bit of a fight, where they change channel over and over. This is meant to be seamless (and generally is) - like on a computer you wouldn't notice - but some devices can be quite sensitive to the change and if you're on a call and it's dropping, it could maybe be this.

You can load credit onto a Skype account and make calls to any phone via that. It costs money, obviously, but it's fairly inexpensive. As long as you're connected to a WiFi network Skype will use that to make the call.

Thanks for the suggestions. With Skype, that's a great tip but I need my normal number to be contacted by others.

With iPhone you can force wifi calling on but needs network provider to allow it, reason I know this as bad to fight with Vodafone to turn it on. EE had it automatically on from the start I think.

Settings-Mobile Data- wifi calling turn on. Not sure if it is always on, but when I have no signal it seems to automatically use it at work in places where no reception at all.
