Messiah 2 modchip & PSX NTSC imports

Hello,

I'm in the proces of getting my PS2 chipped mainly for playing PS2 & PSX imports.

However at the psxnewz.com forums someone advised me NOT to go for a Messiah 2 modchip as this chip has troubles with NTSC PSX games?

I don't know what that quote means above. But, I have a messiahed PS2 [V7 I think] and it plays all my US PSone games.
Not sure if that's any help, but I hope so.

I have never noticed a problem with my chipped PS2 with either US or Japanese PSOne games.

I don't understand that quote either although I have noticed something rather odd with my Messiah 1 modded PS2 in that NTSC PS1 games will play in colour through composite on my non NTSC compatible TV.

Basicly PSX games flicker a lot (so much that it causes headache), messed up colors etc, 2/3 of the screen only visible etc...

lem, thats rubbish i have both messiah 1 and 2 machines and it plays them fine

gossi the dog, thats because the installer will have soldered two pins on a chip to force pal colour on any import game you play on the ps2,

NTSC PS2 games are in black and white through composite though

Yes this is true - compared to playing them on a PS1 the de-interlacing problem really makes PS1 games look terrible! I'm dying to play my US Final Fantasy 7 and Tactics again but on my V7 Messiah 2 PS2 the games always look blocky and rough (FF7 looks shockingly bad), it annoys me so much I'll wait till I get another PS1.

Get yourself a PS1 to play PS1 games man - I'm about to do the same, you can get a machine for like ?20 now and they are childsplay to mod.

Nah I don't want to spend another 20 ? extra just to play some NTSC PSX imports.

I want to able to do it all on my chipped PS2.

U know on PC games where you turn the resolution right the way down and the game looks REALLY blocky? That's what you get - even some text is un-readable, on my Ridge Racer Type 4 the text during the in-between sequences like music select etc is almost unreadable. On Final Fantasy 7 the background is a pixellated mess, same with Tactics

I used to have a V5 with a Messiah 1 aswell I would have been fine with that, doesnt matter now tho cos I'll have a PS1 shortly.
