    Selling Up

I'm contemplating selling the majority of my games off, this is due to a few reasons, one is a general apathy toward buying and owning physical copies of retro games these days. Another is a lack of time due to having a busy job and new baby to look after. I have a Mister, which i mainly use for retro stuff, and most newer stuff i go digital. Would like to reclaim the space taken up too.

The only thing holding me back is the faff and time it will take to sell everything individually, and having to post out hundreds of games fills me with dread. Has anyone sold all of their stuff off in bulk, how did you do it? I'd rather just get rid in one go, but aware i'll take a big hit on value. Has anyone sold stuff to any of the online retro shops, which one did you use/ was the best price offered for stuff?

I've not sold in massive bulk but I used Everybitgaming for some bits. Couple of boxes. Nathan was open and transparent with what he offered me.

PS, any import SNES/PS or PS2 going spare?

Other than a few Nintendo bits and bobs I keep coming across all my gear is gone bar my two Egret 2 cabs and arcade boards. I had reams of gear and a ton of rare-ish blurays too. I did mine bit by bit. I found selling in bulk was tricky but if I wanted to sell a whole bundle, say Super Famicom + games, that forums or, perhaps oddly, Facebook was the place to sell. I guess in the end I settled for faff. I actually found it easier psychologically let go of my gear when doing it bit by bit. I have done bulk sales a good few years back but always felt tempted to buy bits back. As yet I've not bought anything back doing it my most recent way, although will probably pick up another PS5 down the road. I'm not entirely sure my method helps or indeed answers your question but I wish you the best mate. I will say that I took a fair hit of some of my movies and just took a few to CEX as in the end posting hundreds of steelbooks out became a pain.

I'd just pick out the big hitters in your collection and sell them on the forum separately. There's no point in taking a 40-60% loss of value on anything worth a decent amount if you can help it.

A few forumites (myself included) regularly buy through a Facebook group from the guy who runs https://www.forgottenworlds.co.uk . He has a good understanding of market prices and certainly seems very open to all kinds of formats, regions, rarities, and so on. Whether that translates to the kind of buy-in prices you're looking for I don't know, but he could be worth having a chat with?

edit: sorry, forgot the obligatory "sell the good stuff to me first" bit

Forgotten Worlds are a class act, I've bought a fair bit off Allan at the shows. I haven't sold to him but by all accounts he's good to deal with and gives a fair price. He's not scared of weird stuff either, primarily deals in imports. And he regularly buys full collections off people too.

Back when I was having a clearout I mostly used eBay - the main thing I'd say is that anything worth less than about a tenner really isn't cost-effective or worth the hassle to sell on there so you're better off bundling lower price things as job lots.

You want my genuine advice (from someone who's been here and done this multiple times now)? Box it all up air-tight with packs of silica gel, then only sell it all off once your kid is after scrounging University money from you.

If you can’t be bothered with all the hassle, you could just sell it as a job lot to someone. Granted it may be in the £1000s but there is always someone after something.

Failing this, pay someone to do it for you Maybe some kind soul on here is up to the task, for a percentage of what is sold.

Checking that guy's website/Facebook gave me my first serious bout of FOMO I've felt in a long time. I know everything costs more now but man...

He is selling Deep Fear on the Saturn for £425. Not a reflection on him, that's probably the going rate, but ****, I sold a copy of that for £30 back 20 years ago

You should see what houses cost 20 years ago.

Must admit I followed that page after fuse mentioned it and was a bit sad all the content was mostly PAL or common JP stuff.
