    New PC Monitor quandary.

People's, I havnt updated my PC monitor since 2011 or so, a 1080p 23" Samsung led/lcd which has served me well.

Now I have a modern GPU (3070), I'm feeling I'm not making the most of it with higher refresh rates available etc so...

My initial thought was to get a 144 or 165hz 27" 1440p monitor. But going from 23", I actually think this might be too big. Am I making a gross mistake thinking about buying a 1080p 24" with high refresh rate, or should I go big?

I am only speaking from my own experience here but I feel like that stepping up to a 27" panel at 1440p is quite a natural progression from a 23/24" 1080p panel, the pixel density is pretty similar and 1440p is a decent place to be with a GPU like yours.

I have a Dell S2721DGF with a 3060 Ti and have had no complaints at all. The biggest benefit IMO is g-sync/variable refresh rate which eliminates any screen tearing. 144/165Hz seems to be the point of diminishing returns vs something like a 240 or even a 360Hz 1080p display.

Thanks for the input, think I might regret not going for the higher resolution.

Bit the bullet went for a 27" 165hz 1440p from iiyama (GB2770QSU). Was tempted by that poncy Razer Raptor 27 on offer for 350 currently, the iiyama was 70 cheaper, seemed the sane man's choice

Looks like a decent choice. CCL has it at £255 from what I can see?

Indeed, went with Scan for next day delivery only tenner extra.

Same. Only I’m on an Asus P Something IPS which does 165Hz.

First thing to do if you want instant HFR glory is to set your Windows display settings to 144/165Hz. Moving windows around quickly, especially ones containing text, is such a noticeable improvement.

Arrived today definitely feeling the right choice screen size, played a few bigguns and seems capable of driving them thus far, sure taking a hit on the million FPS 1080p delivered, but looks great. No regrets.

DOOM (2016) should be a good one for a rock-solid 144/165 at the same time as amazing graphics. The game isn't bad, either.

First game I played when I got my monitor was Portal, after having owned it about 13 years.
