N64 UltraHDMI - is it possible to still get this done?

Is it still possible to get my N64 modded for HDMI? It's already RGB modded (plus amp in cable), but ideally I'd like to get rid of my remaining Scart TV.

Might be best to sell it for a good price and then replace it with a regular one to mod, or perhaps one that’s already been pre-modded.

There are loads of cheap HDMI mod kits all over AliExpress of varying quality. So beware, I suppose. I know some of the more reputable mods are quite expensive - if they can even be sourced at all now.

Or, you could keep your RGB one and grab a secondhand RetroTINK 5X once the 4K one comes out. Might be overkill for just one console.

The UltraHDMI is old hat, the N64Digital was a superior more contemporary version but PixelFX have condensed a lot of their previous products into a new universal board.

Any of these internal mods are all great till your console breaks then you are screwed as you then have to either unsolder it yourself without destroying it or pay someone to do it for you. Personally i'd just cough up for a tink 5x it will give you a fantastic picture and output hdmi plus you can use it on everything if a console dies you just plug it into a replacement.

Yeah I've got a tink, it's mega. CRT will go when I'm brave enough.

Honestly, paying that much for a scaler for just one console would be a huge waste, unless of course you’re a big enthusiast with a ton of carts.

You could just use that money on a MiSTer setup instead. It has just as much scaling potential as a RetroTINK 5X, and also handles nearly all systems/computers made in the 20th century.

By the time you have bought everything needed for a mister setup your gonna be close or costing more than a tink 5x the mister board alone is close to £200

Indeed. I think he’s just casually after getting his N64 connected to the flat panel. A RetroTINK for just one console which can barely put out a clear picture to begin with for $390 shipped (at least the 5X, before customs duty is factored in) is massively excessive.

What’s the 2X-Pro like? Sounds alright to me: https://www.retrotink.com/product-page/retrotink-2x-pro

Edit: That’s still potentially £200 if you get hit by customs. :/

                    For this:

Considering it’s 2023 I don’t think anyone should be subjected to video output like that, but we’re trying to do this on a budget..

Is there no local distribution, at least?

To be honest there’s no super cheap option the n64 ultra hdmi mod board is £200 if you can get even find one but mostly they are been sold by resellers so it’s closer to £300. N64 is one of the worse consoles to try and make look nice.

Is the OSSC no good for the 64? Too much resolution switching?

It might be the most sensible option. I was looking for something less fiddly but at least it covers all the bases

I’m really not sure. I’ve been trying a few games on the WIP MiSTer core and it’s surprising how many games are flipping about. There’s a buffer to handle it, but I’m not sure if the OSSC does that.

If there is resolution switching the OSSC will take a second or so to do this, at which time the screen will go blank. You’ll also need to have profiles entered if you’re bothered about having optimal image quality.
