    The Winning Eleven series??

Probably a very stupid question, but can someone let me know if the WE series are the equivilent of PES over here. Is WE7 the same as PES3? And is it worth getting on NTSC or is the PAL version better?

    Cheers

WE7 International roughly equals PES3. The PAL version has a 60Hz option so there is very little to be gained - there will presumably be a few tweaks here and there.

The differences between WE7/ PES3 i have noted:

PES3 gameplay speed has increased from WE7.
Because of this it feels more arcadey. Since it has sped up, everyone has exceptional acceleration abilities, and dribbling abilities. The players release their shots quicker as well. Because of the exceptional abilities everyone has gained, 'special' players feel less special.
      ---------------------------------------------
In PES3, shots are more powerful, plus it is slightly easier to score from outside the penalty box. Headers are also slightly more powerful in PES3 as well.
      ---------------------------------------------
      WE7 speed feels more right.
Personally i don't know why Konami Europe decided to speed up the gameplay. Plus the balance in gameplay in WE7 is more better, because it does not have the boost in speed PES3 has.
      ---------------------------------------------
PES3 has Juventus and Feyenoord fully licensed (kits/ player likenesses/ names) which are not in WE7. You cannot edit their kits or kit numbers either.
      ---------------------------------------------
There is one new trick in PES3 where you can flick the ball in the air (using the right analog stick, press the directions 'Down' then 'Up') you can follow onto this flick and volley the ball.
      ---------------------------------------------
In PES3 there are a few recent transfers, such as:
      Beckham to Real Madrid,
      Ronaldinho to Barcelona,
      Marquez to Barcelona,
      Christanval to Marseille,
      Pauleta to Paris Saint Germain,
      Kewell to Liverpool,
      Makaay to Bayern Munich,
      Fadiga to Internazionale,
      Rustu to Barcelona,
Those are the ones i've noticed.

Players like Elber/ Hakan Sukar/ Veron/ van Der Meyde/ Finnan/ Mendieta and Sorin are still at their old clubs.
The International rosters remain largely unchanged.
      ---------------------------------------------
PES3 has the adidas 'Finale' Ball. Whereas WE7 has the 'Fevernova' and 'Tricolore' ball. Unfortunately there is no option to select a second ball in PES3.
      ---------------------------------------------
PES3 is missing the Japanese reserve squad, where you find the likes of Nakamura/ and second versions of Ono/ Takahara/ Hidetoshi Nakata and Inamoto.
As well as this, some players such as Heirro and Batistuta are still in their respective teams (Real Madrid and Inter Milan) In PES3 they are not in the game.
      ---------------------------------------------
PES3 has only 6 boots, which are:

      normal adidas predator mania,
      gunmetal predator mania,
      adidas supernova with grey heel,
      3 other edit boots.

WE7 has 9 boots, which are:

      normal adidas predator mania,
      luna predator mania,
      red predator mania,
      red adidas precision pro,
      adidas supernova with orange heel,
      4 other edit boots.
      ---------------------------------------------
In the edit kit and create player section for WE7, the base model is David Beckham.
For PES3 it is Francesco Totti.

Also when you go in shirt edit mode the top left shirt option is an adidas branded shirt with the logo (it also has matching shorts and socks)

For PES3 it is replaced by a Nike style shirt. Although it does not have the Nike swoosh or branding.
Other than that, the rest of the edit kits are the same in both games.
      ---------------------------------------------
WE7 has 199 hairstyles (after you have bought the extra hairstyles option)
PES3 has 200 (after you have bought the extra hairstyles)
The extra new hairstyle in PES3 is disappointing. If anyone has seen the music video from the 'Prodigy' for the track 'Firestarter' you would see that Keith Flint has a double spiky mohawk.
Although the PES3 version is not as spiky, and very flat.
      ---------------------------------------------
There are new faces in PES3:
      Wayne Rooney,
      Mauro Camoranesi,
      Ruben Baraja,
... those are the only few i can recognise.
      ---------------------------------------------
PES3 title music is different to WE7.
The intro is the same, apart from the 'Finale' ball which is used instead of the 'Fevernova' in WE7.
      ---------------------------------------------
In PES3, players that are not covered by the FifPro license (Holland/ Czech Republic/ Bulgaria etc) do not have call-names. They are instead reffered to as "Number 10", "Number 6" and so on.

For WE7 they do have 'sound-alike' call-names, such as "Fan Nistelrow", "Darits", "Neret" and so on.

This is evident as PES3 has around 180 pages or so of call-names.
      WE7 has over 300 pages of call-names.
      ---------------------------------------------
When editing player names, PES3 has the addition of the european style lettering. Like 'accents' above certain letters. The number 5 shape underneath the letter 'C' and so on.
      ---------------------------------------------
PES3 has fixed the screen shift bug.
In WE7, even if you shifted the screen and saved it, the next time you loaded the game up, it would still go to the default screen position.

Also PES3 has fixed the 'feint' glitch.
In WE7, sometimes when doing the feint move (Square then X, or Circle then X) the player would not do the feint and keep on running forwards, and you cannot control him, until he runs off the pitch, or you get tackled. It doesn't happen that often though.
      ---------------------------------------------
Both games have the stadium tannoy glitch, where if you press the start or circle button during the second scene (when the match introductions are set to ON) where it shows you a shot of the stadium. In stadia which use a tannoy (mainly the european ones) there wont be a tannoy effect to announce the scorer of a goal or substitutions.

You can watch the introduction scenes to the match and keep the tannoy sound effects, as long as you do not skip the second phase of the intro scene (just after the teams in the tunnel) where you see a random shot of the stadium, with a tonnoy sound effect (probably introducing the teams and whatnot)

After this scene the screen should go blank for a milli-second and shift to the teams making their walk onto the pitch or flags being carried onto the pitch. At this point you can press either the Start button to skip the remainder of the cutscenes, or press the Circle button to skip the scenes one by one.
      ---------------------------------------------

In the main, WE7: International will be more or less like PES3, going by the previous WE6: International. There will be some minor changes to some of the animations.
Also there will be the ability to change the stadium names and goalie shirt designs. Not sure what else will be included in WE7: I.

Brilliant, thanks for the reply. Think I'll be picking up PES3 then.

        Cheers

The commentary is more entertaining on WE7 though.

Because it's based off the PES3 engine per chance?
