Final Fantasy VII on the N64

Ages ago in a copy of C&VG (late 96 early 97 maybe and the cover was shiny and with Cloud on it) they were talking to the director of FFVII and they touched upon the Nintendo 64 and why they decided against developing the title for it but there was a picture next to this text that showed a charcter looking like Scarlett next to the Shinra Midgar HQ and it was in the very blocky style of some of the FMV (the pic looked much like the early cut scene where cloud falls of the walkway and into the church you know the more bloky and sharp haired versions)
I was just wondering if FFVII ever went into development on the N64 or if this was just an early shot of Squaresoft seeing what the system could do.
    Anyone, any ideas!?

    * sorry if i posted this in the wrong section of the forum...

I once read somewhere (can't remember if it was a magazine or website) that Squaresoft did start developing FFVII for N64, but due to the restrictions with the media (cart), they moved to the Playstation.

VII was originally developed for the N64, but due to cart restrictions (square wanting the inclusion of full motion fmv sequences) the project was canned on the nintendo machine and went ahead on the psx.
