    Plasma Screen TVs and Gaming.

I'm looking into getting a new tv and i'm considering the virtues of plasma screen tvs. Now are they any good for gaming etc and do they do prog scan etc? What about image quality compared to crt's etc blah blah

I'm pretty green when it comes to plasmas and tvs in general at the minute so any info (price/specific model recommendations/ inputs etc) you can provide would be great.

Having owned a 42inch plasma for a few months now i can safely say they are stunning for anything you want to display on it.
A correctly configured plasma is easily as good as a crt for everyday viewing of Sky digital etc and easily surpases a crt with dvd playback and gaming.
Before i purchased my Hitachi 42PD3000 i owned a Toshiba 36ZP18 picture frame crt and my plasma absolutely trashes it for picture quality.
Analogue signals look pretty good but Sky Digital looks absolutely stunning, you have to remember with sky that some channels use a very low bandwith and bitrate signal and you can tell because some sky channels look stunning and some just look ok.
As i have already said dvd's look amazing and gaming on a 42inch plasma is a sight to behold. Mines hung on my chimneybreast with a Kef Egg kHT2005.2 speaker package to compliment it and i'm in AV heaven, you won't beleive how much bigger my livingroom looks without the bulk of a 36inch crt nestled in the corner.
If you do want to demo some screens don't go into places like Curry or Comet they are not setup correctly and some of them look to be frank ****. Ninety nine percent of the sales staff haven't got a bloody clue either so go to a specialist AV dealer and arrange a demo with them. When you decide what you want go and buy it from John Lewis, they will match any price you get from another dealer and give you a five year warranty "free" when you consider places like Currys want ?1200 for a five year warranty, well you do the maths.

      Thats cool, thanks for that.

I'm kind of drowning in a ruck of information, all i can kind of discern is that the Panasonic 6series is very good but those opinions are now about 6 months out of date and i'm concerned that something better has come along......
