Stepdown to run USA XBox here in UK

Found this cheap one at Maplin but not sure if it's powerful enough

That's a nice offer and it would be fine for a ps2 or cube, but with the xbox you'd ideally want a 150watt stepdown.

If it's any help I had this one for my US XBOX

It's twice the price of the one you saw, but it is 300w so it is more than capable of running your XBOX.

It ran mine fine with no problems at all until I blew my machine up - though that had nothing to do with this stepdown.

The one I suggested definately get's my vote!

It's really odd, looking back at the maplin site the one I actually got was this one:

The 300w is the bottom one, I got it in the sale and paid only ?20 for it. Thing is the one I first suggested looks identical, same spec etc, just presumable a different make?!

I'm confused now - don't know much about stepdowns, so I'd suggest you get someone who knows about these things to give you their advice before you spend your money.

Me again, seems the first one recommended is a step-UP not down, just wondering if anyone knows if a 100w is definitely NOT upto the job (100W one is ?10 and 200W/300W one is ?40ish plus so not just a couple of quid in it).

The Xbox draws a lot of power - a 100 Watt step down will run it, but it will get very hot and may cause it to thermally cut out or burn out the step down. If you get a 300 Watt step down it'll barely get warm, plus you'll likely never need to buy another step down again.
