final fantasy question (snes games)

I've been looking to buy the whole set of final fantasy games to add to my snes collection, though i have few questions about the series.

From what i can find on ebay, there are 6 FF games: Mystic Quest (part 1) 2,3,4,5 and 6. Is this them all?

Plus, how many were released in the US, coz i can never find any US FF games other than mystic Quest, FF2 and FF3.

And are the Jap versions the same as the US versions?

Final Fantasy Mystic Quest = Remake of NES Final Fantasy I
Final Fantasy IV (Jap) = Final Fantasy II (US)
Final Fantasy V (Jap only)
Final Fantasy VI (Jap) = Final Fantasy III (US)

That would also be FF4 (Easy) in Japan = FF2 US, I believe. There are two versions of FF4 in Japan you see...

Both the US versions of FFII & III are censored translations and made easier then the originals.

FF Mystic Quest was coded by Square US and is an attempt at making a US friendly RPG. Its bloody awful, very ugly, way too easy and best avoided. Ironically it was the only FF game to get a PAL release until FFVII on Playstation.

To get a complete collection of the FF games in English your best bet is on PSone:

FF Origins (the original NES FFI + II) PAL/US
FF Anthology (FF IV + V) PAL (IV is a faithful translation of the Jap original and thus much better then the butchered SNES FFII)
FFVI (PAL) (again and more faithful version of the original the the US FFIII)

or

FF Anthology US (FFV + VI)
FF Chronicles US (FFIV + Chrono Trigger)

Sadly FFIII is still not available in English although there has been a collection rumoured with it and Secret of Mana to be released.

Unless you can read Japenses avoid the Jap only originals as they are unplayable - although the boxes are pretty for collecters value.
