Hm we never did review this one. Its not bad, but again succumbs to the problem plagueing most RPGs these days of being ridiculously easy, and a case of tapping the attack button over and over again. But it has the brilliant Kos-Mos in it, so all is forgiven.
Darkangel, in future try a forum search for "Xenosaga" to save yourself time and others in repeating themselves.

I'd argue against it being the best straight RPG on PS2, though it does have its plus points. Against it are a plot that follows the time-honoured anime principle that if it doesn't make sense it's deep, combat that sometimes drags horribly, and what felt to me like a very dated interface (not sure why, but that's the impression I got). It's still a respectable game, in my opinion, but there's better out there (especially if you're willing to leave the RPG straight-and-narrow and give titles like Dragon Quarter, Dark Cloud 2 and Disgaea a try).

Xenosaga could have done with much more challenging optional boses, great joe was kinda a wuss. Even if people say FF-X or X-2 were easy at least they included plenty of very tough optional mobs, although arguable the mandatory bosses in x and x-2 are harder then those in xenosaga.
Despite that xenosaga it awesome, it has probably the best story in an rpg that I have played in a long time (story in rpg = very important), quality characters and superb cinematic sequences of which are almost on par with the metal gear games.
Call me an RPG nut, I own US xenosaga and reloaded, but I thought this was one of the best rpgs ever made. The combat could probably do with being made faster and definetely more difficult so roll on part 2
