DC keeps asking me to set clock

When I boot my Jpn DC, it goes straight to the clock set screen - I assume there's some kind of internal battery that's run down; is it replaceable? Or is it more hassle than it's worth?

it only takes a min to open up a dreamcast, if i were you i would change the battery, they shold cost less than a quid.

I thought the internal clock was powered by how long you played your DC. For instance if you played it only one a month or so you'd have to reinput the time every time you played, however if you played on the system on a regular say daily basis you'd never have to.

if its always been like that then maybe it was disconnected by a previous owner.

This used to be a way of running imports.

Basically what you'd do is block the drive (To make it think it's always shut) then start up your machine with a game inside.

After about 10 minutes the drive stops spinning so you'd change it for the import and then after setting the time and exiting it would boot! It wasn't perfect mind (Audio used to be messed up) but that was back in the days

I think the first gen dc's (the ones that were water cooled) had rechargable batteries and the others just used a standard lithuim battery, I'm not sure though. The xbox uses a capacitor and has a life span of about 24 hours before it loses charge.

bit off topic here i'm afraid, but i'd just like to inform everyone that dc's were NEVER water cooled. THis was a mistaken assumption by EDGE based on early photos of the inside of the DC.
