Cheers for the advice, I've just sent Play-asia an email asking them if they would mark it down and also how much they'd expect me to get stung, as for which mail I'll probably end up rolling a dice when it comes to ordering the thing .

They marked my Q down to $115 or something.
The thing is, UPS costs like $59 I think?
But Play-Asia gets a discount because they're a (steady) customer of UPS. The VAT you have to pay is over the 'real' shipping costs, which is "God knows" how much...

True, they both have their advantages.
I don't know if there's a difference in insurance with the two...
But if I'd order a Q now I'd let it send by EMS.
And if that's another sucky experience I might try UPS again heheh

It might be an idea asking Play-Asia to mark the thing as either 2nd hand or faulty, or both. This will make the low price on the slip seem O.K.

It worked for me when I imported my Q with E.M.S.

My order arrived this morn by EMS with no problems what so ever. They marked it down to $19 for me and marked it as game accessory's.

No tax and a very speedy delivery.

Ordered on sat 31/1/04 arrived on Wed 4/2/03. Thats excellent considering it came from Honk Kong.

What happens if you get something that's been marked down and it's damaged, broken or even gets lost?

You obviously can't claim the price you paid for it if it's marked value is less can you.

Depends on the company that you use. Play-Asia for instance will send you a replacement if something fails to arrive, other companies will not and claim you should have paid for insurance. If your using a firm like the latter you'll only be able to claim up to the value on the customs form.

if you use a credit card you can get a full refund for the value charged to your card from the company you purchased from.

The refund will not be at the marked down price but at the real price on your credit card bill.

                        But..........

This of course all depends if you can get the company you purchased from to refund/replace as a gesture of good will. In other words they dont blame the delivery service picked by yourself and refute all responsibilty.

Its a bit of a grey area if it happens. i suppose thats the chance we all take.

Ive had two deliveries through Play-Asia and one on it's way. Ive always been impatient so all three parcels have come through UPS.

The first parcel was fairly light so no extra charge. The second one contained an arcade stick, games and other knick knacks and was about 5kg. I had to pay ?57 on my doorstep. Quite a bit I admit but that was the first time I imported such a large parcel from Hong Kong.

The parcel ive recently ordered is 3.7kg and expected on Monday. Hopefully it wont cost as much.
