A 1gig cap on downloads is aboslutely stupid. I download at least 2 gig every nigh on my current 512k connection. Why would i be restricted on a higher bandwidth. Surely once they cap your uplaod and download rates how often you use that service is upto you. I didnt see any mention of the capped download on the website but i bet if i ring them up they will tell me if I push them.
I think I'll treat myself to a pioneer 107 next month and upgrade my adsl the month after.

I think it's because in order to download 2Gb a night then you are using your line at full capacity for a long period. I suppose this means that the bandwidth you are using during peak periods cannot be used by other users who experience a much slower service.

As I remember a similar thing happened when they introduced uncapped rates over a modem. People start to use it constantly and so they have to introduce caps to prevent this from happening.

Ther has always been a 1 GB cap on my connection, but that hasnt stopped me downloading +GB's per day with no problem whatsoever. The cap is not enforced, the people I have spoken to at BT admit the cap exists, but they have never known it to be applied.

I think it's a bit silly to add a cap with a higher download speed. Why would people want better speeds if not to download faster/more. You'll surely want to make use of your increased speeds. Although it can get out of hand, I'm actually downloading far more than I can chew on my 8Mb connection, especially since bittorrent took off (I really don't want to check but it's far more than 1 GB per day .

I think for most users the cap would be enough. I get the feeling the 1MB service has been introduced to keep up with the competition. Most consumers (excluding most here !) dont have a clue about the technology and assume its bigger must be better.

I am upgrading as I download large files on a regular basis, and hate waiting around for them.

As for the cap,do they really not enforce the cap,as I constantly go over the limit and worry about losing my broadband!

It's likely I'll be upgrading too. I get a discount on my broadband since my dad works for BT, and it'll apply here too.

So this 1 gig a day cap isn't really enforced? Thank **** -- I was semi-expecting a letter or email from BT any day now asking, "WHATCHOO THINK YOU DOIN', MANG".

                            I know what you mean.

In BT's terms and conditions they state that they have the right to disconnect your supply, without telling you even if you do not realise you breach the terms.

                            Scary huh?
