why go with BT as your provider ???

I use pipex which is ?19.99 a month for 512k.

you can then buy a wireless router/modem for around ?50 from places like dabs.com, and an airport card for your ibook (paid ?20 off ebay for mine).

for hooking up consoles I have a Linksys WET-11, think it was about ?60 this just plugs into any network port that you will find on all the consoles, or you can buy a cheap (?10) hub and put the Linksys into the uplink and then a cable for each console that you want to go online with.

At least this way you dont have to traiil wires everywhere and adding pc's to your network is a 2 minute job, maplin do wireless cards for under ?20 now.

Make sure you get an ethernet modem/router, none of these require software and work instantly. As for compatible modems/routers, check here.

I use this one which is cheap and works fine, a slightly newer one is here.

As for the wireless approach, I use Apple Airport with mine and it works perfectly. After a small problem setting it up (for some reason the xbox didn't set the IP and lots of other technical stuff I don't get, had to ask on a forum for info) it now works fine.

      Hope that helps.

Have a look at www.adslguide.org for more info on ADSL in the UK.

BT is just a service provider, I had it at one property and it was not as good as the far cheaper service I get from Pipex and neither are as good as the service I get from Zen, but that is half the price again.
Just because BT wholesale supply DSL in the UK I think people think they have to go with them, you dont, or maybe it is because they market it for gamers, which is bull****, it is no different to what any of the other service providers are offering.

At the end of the day I think the exchange you are on will make more of a difference than who you go with, obviously some providers buy more bandwidth from BT wholesale, but they are all pretty fast.

you can get 1mb for around ?30 a month now.

If you buy this router you do not need a wireless access point (airport)

you can then buy just an airport card for your ibook, and a wireless adapter(bridge) for any console you want on to go online with, in fact you can add virtually unlimited wireless devices to you network
