just wondering if anyone has any recommendations on disk defraggers... something that maybe works a little quicker then the windows supplied one?

It's not a quick process though, performance gains are negligable [between defrag apps]. It's not like you have to do it very often, just leave it overnight.

Diskeeper from Executive Software is top notch. You can run it over a network and it has a 'smart scheduler' system whereby it defrags at various opportunities whenever your disk / machine is idle ensuring you don't have to worry about fogetting a getting a massively fregmented disc.

Doesn't windows xp do it's own file management? As you can probably tell, I am probably due for a defrag

On my old 500Mhz system defragging the hard drive made the system run so much faster because I didn't do it for about 2 years. I have not had such big increases in performance on my newer computers because I made sure to do it every month or so.

I would just use the windows one, just make sure if you are running windows 98 that you shut down virus scanners and things like that.

The XP disk defragger is a slim down version of Diskkeeper from Executive Software.

I use Diskkeeper 8, which is very good.
