    BT ADSL Disconnects a lot

Does anyone here have BT ADSL? I do and it seems to disconnect a lot, its inconsistant, I can be on for 24 hours with no problems and then suddenly I'll get disconnected and then it will disconnect me again 10 minutes later.

Anybody experience any disconnection issues with BT ADSL?

    either:

    Filter knackered

    Other phone device interfering

    Building work down the road

    Fault on the line

    Crap hardware

Occasional, but not that frequent. Usually it seems to "die" after days of constant connection. A reboot always fixes it, or use the "safely remove hardware" function in your taskbar to stop (then reseat the usb modem) and then start the modem.

I got this at my old place, when I shared my connection with two blokes who were downloading (what I don't know) buggerloads all the time.

Now it's just me and all is good. I also upgraded the firmware and moved to a city so I'm not sure what it was that was the root cause.

I've had BT ADSL Broadband for nearly 6 months and not had one problem at all (touch wood) with it.

Saying that I bought my own router and didn't use their horrible free modem that is probably the cause of half your problems.

As a previous USB nay sayer, I might agree, but I've moved my PC round to my brother's house and been on his BT Yahoo dsl or whatever it's called for the past few days, and it's been faultless. I ping 50ms to SWG (not bad, server is in Amsterdam), 60k throughput and not a single disconnect/other misc usb wobblies yet.

Sorry that's not useful in the slightest to you, but it is a sign that it should work.

I'd tend to err on what Jibber said tbh.

If it is the Netgear D814, be sure and upgrade to the latest firmware, there is a known disconnection issue which is fixed by it.

I'm on freeserve, and I have that problem upstairs in my room with ADSL disconnecting whenever and phonecall is made, I get disconnected at the start, and at the end, however when the modem is plugged into the wall socket that goes directly to the phoneline (not an extension) the problem vanishes, have been told the extensions in the house need redoing and that would solve the problem.

Sounds like you could have the same problem?

that sounds like you need filters on your phone extensions ?

I use one BT say the house needs rewiring.

Also think Roost had the same problem til the extension was redone.

Nah, mine was more severe. The extension just went a bit Dale Winton.

The router would rarely be able to connect then when it did it would be slower than on 56k, that's if it worked at all.

My rooms in the loft which is a rather big job doing the extension from kitchen, so me and the old man spent a day redoing it up through my sisters room and into here and then sorted out all the network cables and made them all nice and tidy. Never had a problem since, faultless (i'm on BT Broadband).

I've left my router on and connected for weeks at a time without having any problems

My mate had alot of trouble when they first got ADSL with BT, random disconnects all the time. I think he found out that it was his USB on his machine (it was reasonably old) I dont know if this could be your problem.

Yep, I had that USB problem. The standard USB ports on my motherboard just couldn't handle any amount of data-flow, so I installed a PCI USB card and all was well.
