    External PS1 Mod Chip

Sorry about the vague question in advance.

I want to play Chrono Cross and Xenogears (which I own). I need a chipped PS1 to play them on. Someone has offered me one with an external mod chip (it plugs in the expansion port, you pop a UK game in, swap it with the game you want to play, and away you go). I was just wondering whether these two games would work on it.

Still haven't played them yet. ft:

i do remember these.. i never used one (had internal mod) but i do remember some of the older ones had trouble playing games with more than 1 disc. Xenogears and Chrono Cross are of course both 2 Discs.

If you know the person selling it to you, prehaps ask if you can test it..

They're ****. You have to get past the UK region with a PAL disk, then quickly take it off while it's spinning and change it for the NTSC disk. A PS1 boot disk does the same job but at least it stops spinning after getting past the Uk region.

My old PSOne has one of those external chips.

Put a PAL game in, when it stops spinning put the other game in and select start from an onscreen menu and you're away.

Had a problem when trying to boot multi-disc games however....

Er, no. After the boot code from the UK disc has been read, the disc stop spinning, a menu pops up, you change the discs over and press O. There's no spinning disc swapping involved.

As far as multi-disc games go, I'm not so sure. I'm under the impression that some games work and others won't. Maybe there's a list online somewhere?
