a bit of a question about v9 ps2s and modding...

i'm still pretty new to all this ps2 stuff, but i've heard about the problems associated with v9 machines and modchips. and guess what? yep, mine's a v9! woot! ...i was kinda just wondering what the details were. all i want the thing to do is play import games in their original video mode - are there really no modchips that can be fitted to a v9 that'll let me do that without knackering the console? if not, i'll sell it and buy a new premod machine, but i'd really like to skip all the arsing about that'd involve.

    thanks...

I don't know how upto date londonconsole.com's website is, but on their PS2 page it states:

"Please note that we only accept V5 or later Playstation 2 consoles for the Installation Service, and are not currently accepting V9 consoles."

The problem with the V9 machines is that you're taking a gamble - it might be ok, or it might not. I've chipped a few of them, and I've got my own silver V9 PS2 with a DMS3, and they're all fine.

But if you're determined to have it chipped, you might be better just to sell it and buy yourself a V10. And get Will to do it.

thanks for the replies, folks - that totally backs up what i'd heard, and since i'm not really willing to take a chance on knackering the thing, i suppose i'd better sell it and get me a premod v10 (yep, from londonconsole/will - i've been swamped by good reviews for the guy wherever i've looked).
