    Terminal Services + Windows XP

Does anyone know of a Terminal Services Server application that I can install on a WindowsXP workstation?

Hmmmmmm, it won't give you concurrent sessions, you'd have to pay for something like Citrix or Windows Terminal Server, but I use VNC to manage some of my boxes at home. (And it's cross platform too.)

Secure, cost-effective remote access and support for your computer, from your desktop or mobile device. VNC® Connect enables cloud or direct connectivity.

Unfortunately we can't use VNC, as it's a "Remote Desktop" sort of connection, rather than creating a new session.

Our remote support application currently uses a mixture of Terminal Services and VNC sessions, but our newer networks bypass a windows 2000 server and have a main WindowsXP file server. We need Terminal Services because VNC is ****e over our 2Mbit lines between sites.

We go from work -> Sites' Server via TS, and then from the Server to all the workstations via VNC.

But of course, WindowsXP doesn't have a TS Server installed. Well, it does, but it's ****ing gay.

The only one i know of is the builtin remote administration, i use it to connect to my XPpc in the office. Seems to work fine for me. If your going to use it, connect via the RDP client in XP as it has better connectivity settings.

Unfortunately the built-in one doesn't quite work as I'd like, I'd like to create a whole new session like Terminal Services, rather than simply viewing a desktop.

Surely now the source code has been leaked, someone will create a TS Server listening app?

I thought it did create a new session, although not concurrent as it boots the local user off. Maybe it'll be in XP version 2.

I'm tempted to give the citrix thing a go as i've got media

Aye, we've looked at Citrix, but it's just a bit too expensive to roll out over 200 sites, as we'd need a license for all of them.

I think I might just persuade the Education department to use Linux in command-line mode only so we can access all the different tty's remotely

We used to use Remote Admninistrator where I once worked. The main part of it was "remote desktop", but it also had telnet and FTP capabilities therein.

No idea how much it was though, but it was quite good.

We use this occasionally but I'm not sure if it is what you are looking for:

Dameware is a remote access software for Windows, Mac, and Linux workstations with mobile integration. Deployed as a SaaS or on-premises solution. Free trial!

Show them X11 forwarding over ssh... that creates a new "session" and works pretty well.
