Star Solider or Shikigami no Shiro 2 on GC

I am trying to decide between these 2 (money saving scheme?).

I like shmups but I'm not the greatest player in the world. I have Ikargua already and Space Raiders. Can someone help me out on these 2?

Shikigami no Shiro 2 is superb - depending which character you play the whole approach to the game is different.

My vote goes to SnS2 as well - Star Soldier is good fun & nice & cheap as well, but SnS2 is fantastic

SnS is a great series of games, Id recomend you pick up Shiki 1 as well if you have a PS2. Great fun, refreshing play mechanics, and for me, aesthetically more pleasing than psyvariar.

Star Soldier is a remake of a NES/Famicom game, the cartridges arent too difficult to track down. I have the famicom cart, and while it is a nice shooter, the seemingly random way you duck below scenery bothers me, its definetly more old fashioned than SnS2.

Then again I havent played the remake on GC, Saur, Im guessing you've got the new version? How does it play? Have you tried the older version?

Anyway, clock up another vote for Shiki.

Shiki 2 has some of my favourite shoot em up bosses, a wicked soundtrack and a very varied selection of characters whose skills totally change the way you play.

I wasnt feeling the original version, I had it for a while but only played it on and off - but the next one is pure addiction as soon as you get going. Everything seems so much better in execution, the tension system is superb and very easy to understand (and see where you need to improve)
As I said before, the bosses are beautifully designed and a lot of fun to fight against - it's not a very hard shoot em up but it's very enjoyable!

Thanks for that. But oops, sorry, I meant Star Soldier.

How does StarSoldier on GC play, and have you played the original?

(though reading that, I think I really need to upgrade to Shiki 2 as well, I loved the first)

Star Soldier is same old Star Soldier - Speed control on a button changing the >>> at th top of the screen, you can hold fire for a constant weak shot, tap it rapid for a strong shot and you have a ultra powerful pulse laser like in Mars Matrix.

It's worth the ?10 - ?15 it's going for definetly, but personally I'm not feeling the straight blasting old style shoot em ups anymore and would spend the extra and go for Shiki 2.

Budget release I assume. Fun game for a while, then it gets a bit tedious. More tedious than the original Space Invaders which is strange as this has more variety. One tough mother f*****g game though.

I'd say it depends on how serious you are into the genre.
I have both and prefer Star Soldier.
Shiki was good, but for some reason never really clicked with me like Star Soldier or Ikaruga did.
I think it's because I'm relatively new to the genre and not heavily into the genre unlike the guy's here.

Star Soldier on the cube is a great shooter....but I still prefer the N64 version

They're both good, but SnS2 is the better of the two. A LE is out on DC in March so you may want to hold onif you have a DC..

Shikigami is superb, and by far the better game when taken as a whole. But Star Soldier's Two Minute Mode is worth the fifteen quid alone. It's like crack.
